#SummerOfStories This scene from Songs of Broken Bells still gives me chills when I reread it.

Her legs shook, but she managed to take a step backwards, and then another. A few windows illuminated, and curious faces peeked beyond the curtains. That wicked smile stretched wider, bringing jagged teeth to the very edges of its face. Líadan's flame surged, catching a flower patch outside of the tavern on fire.
What a delightful treat your Elders have created for me. So...tragic. A forked tongue flicked, glancing across its teeth, relishing the words as they passed over its lipless maw.
A clawed hand extended towards Líadan, but rather than make contact with her chest, it reached through her. She let out a wracked gasp as fingers curled around her heart, squeezing ever so slightly. The flame weaved around its fingers, and Líadan felt something snap. Not a physical snap, but rather something deep within the core of the flame. She sputtered out a cough, a trickle of blood trailing down her chin.

I've been really into erasure poetry lately so I decided to try my hand at it. It's messy but I had a lot of fun making it! Might fuck around and write some more nature themed poems with explorations of gender.

An erasure poem. The first line is whole and the following lines have parts deleted to form new words and sentences. The whole poem reads:

#SFFChat Not to toot my own horn but I’m proud of all of my worldbuilding. I guess if I had to choose a single element it would be the pantheon and how the characters and everyday people interact with faith and the saints. It’s certainly what I put the most effort into.

They stopped at the shrine to Yssgradil before leaving. It was an elaborate thing carved from an old odecia tree that had succumbed to a lightning storm. The jagged black scar had been carefully carved out and in its place now stood a miniaturized likeness of the demigod—a wide-based cypress with a stoic face. Vasil took out two small vials of plant speech potions and nestled them amongst the various gifts left by other travelers. Líadan followed suit with a bundle of dried herbs.
They each grazed their hand across the coarse bark and breathed deeply, connecting with the Amstelvoort in a moment of quiet reflection.
Líadan had never felt more distant from the forest, but she closed her eyes and listened, waiting for that moment of confirmation. I see you, I feel you, I hear you. Her fingers brushed over a patch of moss, and the minuscule stalks curled around her fingers. She forced a puff of air through her nose. Perhaps the Amstelvoort knew it was an accident. Perhaps she was already forgiven. Or maybe She did not recognize

"I do not know. I know there was a massive explosion of some kind, and then the war just... ended."
Small memorials to those who fell during the war were interspersed every few miles, three rounded stones stacked atop each other, representing the three planes a soul must pass through in order to reach The Boneyard. Vasil and Líadan took a few moments at each one to pay their respects and offer a small prayer to The Spirit Keeper 4 for safe passage of the souls to The Bone Yard. At one such stop, they came across a Hagio of Saint Heathcliff, patron saint of graveyards. The elderly human bowed their head in acknowledgement when Vasil and Líadan stopped, though they did not stop their prayer. They had a scroll draped over one arm and a small, black bird—about the size of a robin
-perched on the other.
The Hagio brought the bird, who appeared to have some kind of metal mask covering its head, up to the scroll. The bird started to sing a melodramatic tune, and the spell circle lit up with a gray light. The stones of the memorial vibrated and clattered together, taking on the same gray glow.

A steady drop of water plinked into the bowl in front of Minno. They breathed slowly in time with the drips, closing their eyes.
"There are three things which will always stand true. One, Saint Celinar will carry the light of truth to the end of time. Two, as a loyal Hagio of The Truth Seeker, I will uphold their single edict-never willfully and knowingly tell a lie.
Three, no one is ever lost from the truth; you merely need to light their path."
They exhaled slowly and stood, stretching their arms up, eliciting a small pop from their spine. They took their time pouring out the contents and disassembling the bamboo device used to drip water at a measured pace. When

I've been designing a Wildsea RPG reach as a little treat for myself and of course I had to make a map for it (yes I should be studying, give a guy a break, I can only look at xrays for so long before my eyes start to glaze over)

A clawed hand extended towards Líadan, but rather than make contact with her chest, it reached through her. She let out a wracked gasp as fingers curled around her heart, squeezing ever so slightly. The flame weaved around its fingers, and Líadan felt something snap. Not a physical snap, but rather something deep within the core of the flame. She sputtered out a cough, a trickle of blood trailing down her chin.

"Your wisdom will be taken under advisement." She gave a mock bow, drawing a laugh from Vasil. "Could you fetch me some water? I can feel the potion starting to fade."
"This seemed to work well enough last time, if you'd like to use it. It is a very sturdy material." Vasil held out Minno's wool cloak.
She raised her eyebrows.
The moss around Vasil's cheeks took on a pink hue. "They lent it to me.
I was not expecting a chill at this time of year."
She took the cloak from him and wrapped it around her arms as the heat built up within them. Despite the flame's protest to it, she had grown somewhat used to the transformation now and gritted her teeth as her flesh began to reorganize itself. She hummed to herself, focusing on the melody and counting the broken shells along the shore. The cloak kept her flames contained well enough, and once they faded away, she returned it to Vasil.
"What's the deal with you two?" she asked.
"Whatever do you mean?" Pale pink flowers bloomed around his ears.
"You said Minno was an old friend, but I feel like I catch you blushing or grinning like a fool anytime they look your way. And the way you two talk to each other, it seems a bit friendlier than friends."
Vasil groaned, knowing Líadan wasn't going to drop the interrogation any time soon. "We were romantically involved for a time. Well, for ten years, more than just a time. We met shortly before I started my apprenticeship with Thiluane. I was fairly certain I wanted to become an Ohbego, but my vahs still wanted me to go on my yel'tinae to make sure I was certain before committing. I found myself in Re ibách shadowing a mason—I was absolutely atrocious at it, but that is beside the point. I met Minno there, and we fell head over heels for each other and were practically inseparable. But...we were both young and hard-headed, and

we couldn't get past the disagreements that drove us apart. To say the least, we did not end things on good terms."
"So you do have a type, then."
"What do you mean by that?"
"You have a habit of falling for powerful Hagi. Minno seems nice, but remember where their duty and loyalties lie. I nearly had to drag you out of the hagiography after that ordeal with Lyrina."
Vasil's face twisted up in discomfort. "Please, do not remind me of that. It was...not my brightest moment. Believe me, I am well aware of where Minno's loyalties belong. To tell you the truth, I do not know how I feel about seeing them again. I would like to believe we have matured from what once was, but there is a part of me that aches from our past.
Minno is not a bad kith. They are incredibly kind-hearted, but they have unwavering morals they become very defensive of when challenged, and they have said some cruel things to me because of that. I have said some cruel things as well." He pulled a little too hard on the rope at the top of his tent. "Regardless, I am not here to rekindle an old flame. Ra-ther, to snuff one out." He nudged her playfully.
Líadan rolled her eyes. "Just be careful, okay?"
"It is my job to worry about you, Lí, not the reverse."
"You're my friend. Of course, it's my job to worry about you."

She would never admit it, but Aloïs had always been incredibly grateful that she had been
picked by a Landed knight when she joined the Order. The Wandering knights were perhaps
more important than Landed knights, they kept the roads and farmlands safe from monsters, but
Aloïs was not cut out for the lifestyle. Never having a place to return home to, never being able
to start a family, and constantly moving to where the concentrations of monsters was highest.
She found the whole idea exhausting. Of course, there was no guarantee that she wouldn’t be
called upon to take up the station, but being that she had served as page and squire to a Landed
knight her chances of receiving the same title were high.

#FebruaryWorldbuilders There’s so much in The Amstelvoort, but I’ll focus on my favorite little plot relevant flower. Feather-wisps are little cottony flowers which catch trap sounds in their tendrils.

"Any secrets for me today, little blooms?" The feather-wisps swayed under her breath, and muffled voices filled the air.
"We should get back soon, Torri. I am sure Yara will be wondering why it took me so long to find the thon berries."
"Can we not stay a little longer, Korella? I feel as though I never get to see you since I started working in the hagiography."

"Oh, alright. How could I deny you when you look at me like that?"
Líadan quirked an eyebrow as the voices faded away to the sound of rustling leaves.
She hadn't realized Yara's newest apprentice was seeing someone-and the star minor canon at that. She made a mental note to remind the young herbalist to keep away from the feather-wisps if she wanted to keep her relationships a proper secret.
"Is it alright if I bring some of you back with me? I only need a basket full."
She took the gentle birdsong rising around her as their consent. Her serrated black nails made excellent knives for harvesting the delicate flowers, and she soon lost herself to the rhythm of the work. Dappled sunlight broke through the dense canopy and danced across the feather-whisps petals. Líadan's skin warmed under the small pinpoints of light. Humming along to Vasil's distant song, the tension she had felt earlier faded.
