I don’t even like using the apostrophe at all, bc it feels silly to be precious about a grammar rule for a word people try and tell me (a born/raised Southerner) is not proper anyway. Honestly the apostrophe kinda feels like it emphasizes a drawl that I don’t have or hear in my region (NC)

People still fighting over whether it’s proper English or not and I’ve moved on to refusing to use the apostrophe, it feels insulting that there’s a “proper English” rule demanding it while so many still consider the word a colloquialism and it is considered non formal. It’s yall from me.

Not sure but I do know that Peter Thiel just move to and invested big sums in Argentina, the country we sent a $20 billion bailout to last October to protect their RW president before elections. And imported their beef last year too sooooo

Oh I’m sure there will be, bc look at anti vax and anti mRNA folks! But I do think medicine needs to differentiate itself from the big data harvester AIs bc people don’t want their health records being scraped by OpenAI.

Catching more disease is great ofc, but if that is gonna increase cost it will mean in reality that more disease goes undiagnosed bc insurance will find a way to deny more claims.

Read a comment somewhere where a patient was denied a (shiny new AI tech) scan by insurance. So if anything it looks like AI enabled med tech will only cost us MORE $, just like every advancement in med tech raises healthcare costs bc equipment gets more expensive

Didn’t the internet already do that?
010
Nessa @vmcf.bsky.social · 21/08/2026
And at their very core they are centers to store massive amounts of data, and that data is being non consensually scraped from the internet, harvested through spy tech in communities, now they are scanning/destroying books for more data. We are all unpaid data producers against our will.

Also (maybe this is obvious but I don’t see it linked together often) the whole DOGE demolition seemed based on an assumption that AI could easily replace these workers right?

Seems like they came for creatives/artists first even before coming for corporate employees, the people who these days aren’t even employees they are relegated to less stable freelance existence. And still hated by the get rich hustlers bc they wanted to get paid for their work!

Yeah when there are several tech guys who have written manifestos dreaming of overthrowing democracy so they can rule a tech feudalist society, and those guys are not pariahs with the rest of tech leaders, they shouldn’t be surprised to all be lumped together and rejected/reviled

Nessa @vmcf.bsky.social · 21/08/2026
We also have collectively been lied to enough in the last few decades that we don’t even trust them when they try and highlight the benefits we would supposedly get from the tech, we mostly just hear the downsides they have put out there. And with good reason, they have done nothing to earn trust

Umm, I think there would be some HIPAA problems with EMTs wearing these bc the data they collect is not privacy protected right? Can’t Meta staff view what users are recording? This is actually VERY PROBLEMATIC and it’s giving personal health info to AI databases- hell no!

Nessa @vmcf.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
For real- it would probably be a lot easier/effective to have a public boycott of Ray-Ban than Meta, we are the customers for sunglasses but the product for SM.

Probably bc school policies tend to be reactive to new offenses, so even though it was clear as soon as these glasses hit the market that they would be a problem, school boards don’t tend to make a new policy prohibiting them until there’s an incident OR school board meetings get lot of opposition

I’m all for the schools that are reverting back to pencil/paper, no tech during school day. Students do not need to be doing al their learning on tech in order to be proficient in using tech. Hell the Gen Z’s now entering workforce are not more tech savvy, so that goal didn’t even happen.

2 years of integrating AI into a student’s educational process is gonna end up being much more devastating than the two years of Covid upheaval, isn’t it? Think of the kids who were elementary students during stay at home learning years, who are now prime age for abusing this, 6th-11th graders.

NCSU is my alma mater, so when I started reading this headline I was like “shit nooo” and then got to the textile focus “oh okay whew, at least it’s not weapons”. Read article, dammit it’s weapons, hi tech fabrics for drones and missiles ughhhh

Right but it used to be free college and healthcare for life to entice service, this feels gross bc it is a blatant abuse, offering young people a shiny thing they really want but not an actual fair benefit for service. It’s exploitative and disrespectful to the commitment they are asking in return.

The whole 12 years at Harvard in a dorm thing was really weird. What are they implying? Are college students not true residents in the area? Seems like an argument that goes against mainstream Dem platform, much less progressive views. And feels like they are trying to imply 12 yrs for undergrad?

Good news is that piece reads as some excuse making drivel and comes off pretty elitist, so it’s definitely not swaying anyone capable of being swayed. All it’s doing is comforting people who already decided to support Decker but don’t want to feel guilty about any criticism of her.

I’m sorry, can we circle back- I missed the part where Hasan is responsible for the declining fertility of the youth?!? Is this US specific, or is he the cause of the global drop in birth rates? And also, how?

Nessa @vmcf.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
He also did this apologizing a while ago, he’s not just accepting culpability in this moment bc he’s getting mainstream attention and coordinated attacks. He shouldn’t have no continually apologize just bc people unfamiliar w/ him wanna believe a political enemy’s clip farming, that’s too much
010
Nessa @vmcf.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
He hasn’t made a bunch of apologies or decried cancel culture or ignored the controversy, he has faced it and handled it in a respectful responsible manner. But it’s easy for propagandists to clip old stuff and pretend he hasn’t disavowed and apologized.

Nessa @vmcf.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
He doesn’t, he did make some misogynistic and homophobic comments when he was first starting out. He has grown, his audience has grown and he understands the responsibilities that come with having such a large audience, he has fully owned and apologized for past statements that were crude.

Britain purposely starved Ireland but it’s totally fine for US media to fawn over their modern monarchy like that’s not against everything US stands for.

So you do not support holding the current regime and their enablers responsible for everything they are doing in blatant corruption/distortion of our Constitutional democracy? Nuremberg trials were tribunals, do you object to those?

A full 1/3 of Dem voters identify as Dem Socialists now, a huge percentage of left leaning youth voters do and they listen to/respect Hasan. Dems cannot win control of any part of Fed govt without voters who support Hasan and/or are Dem socialists. We CANNOT do it without him.

You can’t call for The Hague bc someone supports communism as an ideology. Capitalist policies have killed millions also. And The Hague is for war crimes, genocide, etc- which majority of Congress has politically enabled, while Hasan has fought against it. Give spec. crime he deserves Hague for?
000
Nessa @vmcf.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
Having a different political POV is a lot different than committing crimes against humanity. Hasan is not promoting any policies that would break international law, he is not promoting any politicians who want to do war crimes. Why does he deserve The Hague?

Why are they holding general elections during primaries? I’m assuming bc Republicans used to reliably do better in low turnout elections and this was a scheme to ensure their victory?

Nessa @vmcf.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
First and foremost we need a candidate that excites Dem and left leaning independent voters, and that right now is NOT a centrist. Centrists have been losing elections in FL for a decade, maybe let’s try something different huh?

Nessa @vmcf.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
Candidates in the primaries or candidates who won their primaries? Bc one the voters have no control over and the other they have all the control over

Has the population grown rapidly? This graph is just overall tax collected, if population has doubled and that growth has raised housing costs which raises property tax collected, then these number might make sense? Also it’s hard to imagine a bunch of Rs are raising tax rates doesn’t sound right

Definite immune dysfunction! My PA is amazing bc while she might not be an expert in my condition (but like you say, who really is?) she is very open minded to trying new things and treats me like a peer in my treatment. She will research stuff for me so I will def bring this up! Thanks 😊

My 79 yo dad turned in his Motorola work cell phone when he retired 15 years ago and refused to ever have a cell phone again. Pros- not having to worry about any of this new tech related confusion with him. Cons- his landline has atrocious spam filters and his phone rings several times an hour.

Jeffries on the other hand has never actually been majority leader, so we don’t know exactly how he would perform. He does come off as more corporate bought (while Schumer seems more NYC rich ppl bought).
010
Nessa @vmcf.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
Me personally, I am more irate with Schumer for several reasons- when he was leader, intraparty controlled opposition always seemed to take down best bills. Also we’ve seen how McConnell used the power to stymy a President and just don’t see that fight out of Schumer.
270
Nessa @vmcf.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
Okay but if you had to make a choice and you could only get rid of one, would you bench Jeffries or Schumer? In this scenario we are assuming Dems win House, would your answer change depending on which party controls the Senate?

The man was consumed with his persona of being a persecuted conservative, he abandoned his actual job of educating young minds, and he should not have been anywhere near a classroom, the university was forced to keep him by the same folks who believe bigoted hate speech is diversity of thought

and community ties, and he chose to do it all on the internet, basking in the glow of RWNJ commenters/pundits egging him on. It is not at ALL the same situation. Yes he got aggressively attacked from online hate, but he also reveled in directing hate AT college students he doxxed online.

He was not “persecuted” for his conservative beliefs he abandoned his role as educator to target/harass students and colleagues who didn’t share his views. And he cried victim and schemed to have SCOTUS treat bigoted viewpoints as a protected class. He willfully blew up his IRL relationships

Mike Adams posted inflammatory statements singling out individual UNCW students, and he was also married (briefly) to a student. He was not safe for students (a threat whether he liked or disliked them) he should never have gotten tenure but UNCW settled bc he had deep pockets funding his case.
