@saraegregory.bsky.social great article. Any confirmation where the $23.6 billion concession fee goes? Ie general revenue, GDOT, some special slush-fundy account?

Sigh, those BAT people are so toxic. Happy as long as they successfully keep transit riders far from their homes. "BRT" in lanes with cars is absurd. Existing ITP stations are underdeveloped, lacking retail and wasting land on free parking. Backwards to develop bus routes and stops along highways.

A disaster that GDOT is building with no opposition. Induced demand from further north will keep congestion up on the highway, and make local traffic near the express lanes and in the city worse. Elevated lanes will make sound and particulate emissions far worse. www.youtube.com/watch?v=L90h...

I wish Georgia would appreciate children more as people deserving support, and great public schools as an achievement for a community to be proud of. Not as cost centers to be minimized

if it's the smart meter at fault I don't see why it would cause your $/kWH to go up, and not your kWh? If you look at the more detailed bill it'll show eg fuel recovery fee, add ons like that could be the difference between their claimed reduction and your actual bill

Trip today worked out, but the scariest things about taking kids on MARTA are 1) drivers, while getting to and from MARTA 2) feeling stranded when the next three buses after ours are all cancelled, due to insufficient funding there are other concerns but it's racism that gives them the headlines

vladimir.theatl.social @vladimir.theatl.social · 12/10/2026
To the extent much of the public feels the economic stress of the housing crisis, as a sometimes-observer my two cents is that citizen's assemblies are outright harmful.

what did it for me was an explainer about buffalo wings in China, where "authentic" wings were disfavored because to people with a high capsaicin tolerance (which anybody can do if they eat spicy food for a little while) it tasted like vinegar not like spicy wings

Different direction, but relatedly a lot of hot causes are acidic. Relatively low-heat sauces tend to be more vinegar forward, but I think even the very hot ones are still acidic. I've been trying to cook more bean dishes and the chance to use more hot sauces to balance is an upside.

The autonomous ATL Spoke 12-month project is a perfect cost example. $3 million for four automated vans to make 40 trips per day each for a year. At $8,219 per day, Atlanta pays more than $51 per trip, empty or full. At the end of this $3 million rental, the city owns nothing. The tax dollars are gone.

Compare this to MARTA buses: about $700,000 new. MARTA could have owned three new, high-capacity buses and hired several bus drivers for three years for the same amount the city paid to rent four luxury vans for a single year.

Right they did, but that's not what caused this. They do need more dollars though (and to waste less money subsidizing parking)
The World Cup expenses weren’t the main factor behind the overspending, Patterson said, and some tournament-related expenses are still in line for federal reimbursement, money that will count as revenue in this year’s budget

it would be good to see MARTA board members as concerned about their constant service cancellations, even after their route redesign, and to have a plan for fixing that. If the budget is inadequate, let's see some advocacy from them for their system. www.ajc.com/news/2026/10...

yeah I don't know what's going on, maybe it's different because the streetcar machines are outside and the bus machines are inside by the driver? Extra goofy that I have a marta bus/train pass, but that doesn't apply to the streetcar we weren't going far and the weather was nice so ndb, but absurd

today the streetcar ticket machine was off or broken, we didn't have $1s so we couldn't board a 49 bus downtown drove by without seeing us at a train station there were two buses and drivers, some confusion about assignments, we ended up missing a departure and they waited 20 min for the next one

Metro #ATL is the top market for data center construction because Georgia exempts them from sales tax for the valuable equipment they buy, and GA power builds natural gas power for them while charging the rest of us fuel surcharges. I suspect the driver who crashed was coming south on Roswell and went straight instead of veering with the road. Horrible so-called engineering by GDOT makes this road very dangerous. Also, had the BMW SUV driver been using even a basic ADAS lane keeping system they could have avoided this crash.

Currently the sidewalks do not have any curb at all between the sidewalk and the road, seemingly to help drivers crash off the road even faster. Drivers on Roswell right after the crash were staring at their phones, of course. 3 pics, there were others. up.sandyspringsga.gov/sites/defaul...

Crash tonight at the Play Matters/Driving School facility at 4641 Roswell Rd. Sandy Springs continues to not make progress on Phase 1 of the T0019 project from 2022 to upgrade the sidewalks here, nevermind add barriers, as drivers repeatedly crash into parking lots where the city knows kids go.
BMW SUV crashed into a trailer. Resting on a grassy slope. Just left the parking lot.View looking back where the SUV had come from. The driver demolished a sign along the way, visible halfway through.
