In my experience it's less about genuine fealty and more about an excuse to engage in an argument or antisocial behavior. If a reply guy is cut off from one lord, they'll find another to fight on behalf of. So a platform banning people who are just general menaces might make a dent.

Failure to recognize a narrative device is a prong of the current scourge of people righteously frothing that Mr. X doing Bad Thing means the author endorses Bad Thing because the author didn't explicitly say Mr. X is the Designated Villain. Surprised more writers haven't vanished to clown school!
