8. In 5C02 Danielle Henry is running against Shawn Taylor who is also Shango Taylor per DC Board of Elections docs apparently was caught running a U.S. currency counterfeiting operation. If so he probably shouldn't be near ANC funds.
When deputies entered the apartment, they found out why: In plain view was a full-blown U.S. currency counterfeiting operation, documents said.

That’s when they called the U.S. Secret Service, which sent Special Agent Christopher Gojez to the scene, he wrote in a sworn statement filed in Maryland’s federal court.

According to Gojez’s statement, Taylor was notified he was to be evicted from his apartment on 5090 Silver Hill Court on Aug. 7. In the letter sent by the district court, he was told “you may be put out at any time.”ederal authorities say a District Heights man had nearly two months between the time of his eviction notice and the day deputies arrived to boot him, but he didn’t take the time to clean up a counterfeiting operation.

Instead, Shango Taylor left when Prince George’s County sheriff’s deputies arrived last fall, telling them he was going to rent a truck to move his furniture, court documents said. Here, it is undisputed that the Candidate’s given name is “Shango Taylor.” That said, the
evidence here is that Candidate is well-known in the community as “Shawn Taylor.” That name
does not inappropriately convey a campaign slogan. As there is nothing facially confusing with
respect to that name, we accept the Candidate’s representation as to the name by which he is
generally known to voters and whether voters would be able to identify him on the ballot were he
to use his given name of “Shango Taylor.”
CONCLUSION
For these reasons, it is hereby
ORDERED that the Executive Director’s preliminary determination that Candidate Taylor
cannot use the name “Shawn Taylor” in lieu of “Shango Taylor” on the 2026 Primary Election

In DC, we not only give the incarcerated the vote, we have an ANC district surrounding the prison so one of our (currently 345) Commissioners is incarcerated and gives an electoral voice to the others. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advisor...

To be clear, there are already two candidates in 5B06 and I was not advising you to run.

VJ @vjkapur.bsky.social · 10/07/2026
There would appear to be a competitive election in 5B06 as well. The Commissioner there could help Bree… or not.

VJ @vjkapur.bsky.social · 10/07/2026
She’s gonna be great! But longterm 5B02 Commissioner Ursula Higgins has also pulled petition sheets. This is an extremely consequential election and we need all hands on deck.

Meh. Can we extract cloverleaf improvements out of it? It’s ugly so make DC beautiful or whatever?

This is well known. It is a very large capital project that might not be very high on the list. But I’m pretty sure it’s on the list. ANC 5C tried to get money for it as part of the PUD for a large industrial facility adjacent to it, but it just went a different way. drive.google.com/file/d/1XGxH...

There is a pending New York Ave sidewalk improvement project (dunno the latest, maybe @fixcircle.bsky.social does) that could potentially move the poles or clean up the curb cut. Seems easier than trying to get a new random one added if these are the constraints.

- SBP: Strategic Bikeways Plan. A new five-year work plan that they did a comically large amount of outreach over in late 2025. - SDA: South Dakota Ave. A road diet with possible bike lanes was studied in FY24-25 but shelved for intersection spot fixes which are proceeding

The one thing I’d change now that we know there’s a new admin is that I’d push for unshelving the SDA study before it gets stale.
100
VJ @vjkapur.bsky.social · 24/06/2026
I would rather have this SBP released sooner rather than later (it was quietly delayed) and then have the new admin amp up the timetable. I obviously hope all the resolutions asks are on the 5yr plan but I’d settle for a solid fraction. My standards are quite low at this point!

VJ @vjkapur.bsky.social · 24/06/2026
Yeah I understand the unease but everything about the conditions there is so lousy, I feel like any standards need to be lowered for a while. Though this negotiation went a completely different way (reducing heavy industrial uses), we also cataloged some asks here drive.google.com/file/d/1XGxH...

Bikeshare itself is owned by the jurisdictional DOTs that literally build bike lanes, but I agree it’s an odd thing to say.

I noted when I called that if DDOT is handling sidewalks, they should be sure to handle bike lanes on Franklin and Monroe too. For many reasons, including keeping bikes and scooters off the sidewalk.

VJ @vjkapur.bsky.social · 04/02/2026
I just called and helped craft a detailed memo on the topic for escalation, covering bike lanes and sidewalks on the list of bridges and the DDOT/DPW conflict.

VJ @vjkapur.bsky.social · 04/02/2026
Is there anything folks can do to push this along? 9th St bridge, QC, Taylor, Monroe, Franklin are all pretty bad on sidewalks (and bike lanes where applicable) and they’re major points of failure in the network obviously.

Thank you Councilmember! While more funds will help immensely, we still need DPR to take community input seriously when weighing the inevitable heavy trade-offs in a complex project like this. ANC 5C will be considering a resolution tonight to push them on that. docs.google.com/document/d/1...

We are being governed by the most corrupt, self-serving President this country has ever seen. DC has borne the brunt because we are not a state. The attempt to seize control of DC's public golf courses is another (small) example of how this harms regular people in DC and nationwide

This is good, but there should be triggers for the Office of Planning to apply for Map Amendments to the Zoning Commission to implement any FLUM changes, or they won’t do anything.
