The forest fire smoke around here has been pretty bad lately, but sometimes it makes for good photos.

Apparently the current trend is posting pictures from 2016, and I’m okay with that. I was very pretty in 2016. I races bikes, swam in the sun, had great hair and I could squat on an exercise ball without killing myself.

I got a new credit card, so now comes my favourite part: breaking the card up by hand. I’m very fidgety and I like the feeling of the plastic edges pressing into my fingers, which I now understand may be a kind of stimming (probably related to my anxiety).

Not only is this sort of stochastic intelligence likely to miss the mark a lot, I’m not trying to live my life not having any bad experiences at all. Having a bad time occasionally is good for for you. Unfortunately, Calvin’s dad was right: it builds character.

Went looking for the etymology of 'ball' as in the formal event, and etymonline tells me it's from 'baller', to dance, OBVIOUSLY. But then I found the definition of 'ball' as in 'to have sex with' and the ambiguity of its origin is perfect.

The definition of the word ball as a verb. The relevant part of the definition is this: "that of "to copulate" is attested by 1940s in jazz slang, either from the noun sense of "testicle" or "enjoyable time" (from ball (n.2))."

I did a pretty good 5km swim today. I don’t like swimming that long continuously because I’m afraid I’ll pass out from boredom and drown, but I’m okay with breaking it up into 50x100. Some good backstroke times in there this year.
