Autistic people are constantly subject to many kinds of restraint: -Physical restraint- often because of the misunderstanding around meltdowns -Chemical restraint and over prescribed anti psychotics But also -Not hearing us -Doing things about us without us -Not respecting our autonomy

Families of autistic children in burnout, are time and time again being threatened by social services and CAMHs teams and even told their child will be sectioned - because of an increase in meltdowns (a sign of burnout). I won’t stop fighting until autistic burnout is officially recognised by all.

2023 Statement released by ICARS, @Neuroclastic, and @ParisHilton's 11:11 Impact Media regarding: United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) calling on the UK to enforce critical protections to safeguard children from restraint and seclusion in schools. #AgainstRestraint
A document titled "Joint Statement regarding United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child: Concluding Observations on Restraint and Seclusion in UK Schools" with logos of ICARS, NeuroClastic, and Paris Hilton’s 11:11 Impact Media at the top.

The statement discusses the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child's observations, released on June 2, 2023, which call for immediate legislative action in the UK to prohibit the use of restraint and seclusion as a disciplinary measure, reserving them solely for cases of true "last resort." The Committee also advocates for:

A ban on police presence in schools.
Public release of restraint and seclusion data.
Investigating abuse and maltreatment cases.
A child-rights-based educational approach.
The document highlights support from ICARS, NeuroClastic, and 11:11 Impact Media for these recommendations and their efforts to advocate for legislative protections, as reflected in the ICARS Report: Restraint and Seclusion in England’s Schools (April 2023). Legislative recommendations include:

Public reporting and analysis of restraint/seclusion data.
Prohibition of restraint outside "true last resort."
Elimination of seclusion.
Robust complaint mechanisms for survivors, parents, and caregivers.
The statement acknowledges the UK Department for Education's willingness to discuss changes and expresses hope that these measures will safeguard children’s welfare and support educators.A document summarizing critical areas related to restraint and seclusion in education from the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child. The header reads:
"Below are the critical areas pertaining to restraint and seclusion in education from the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child: Concluding observations on the combined sixth and seventh reports of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland."

The document is divided into sections:

Data Collection
Recommends regular collection, analysis, and publication of disaggregated data on the use of restraint, seclusion, solitary confinement, and harmful devices against children.
Violence Against Children (arts. 19, 24, 28, 34, 37, and 39)
Recommends prohibiting harmful practices like spit hoods, tasers, and seclusion as disciplinary measures.
Calls for statutory guidance to ensure restraint is used only as a last resort to prevent harm.
Urges investigation and sanctioning of maltreatment, with reparations for victims.
Education, Leisure, and Cultural Activities (arts. 28–31)
Advocates for banning restraint and seclusion in schools, adopting child-rights-based approaches, and training educators in child-sensitive methods.
Opposes the presence of police in schools.
Implementation and Reporting
Calls for dissemination of findings in accessible formats and languages, including child-friendly versions.
Logos of ICARS, NeuroClastic, and 11:11 Impact Media are displayed at the bottom. The document emphasizes legislative action to protect children's rights and uphold their dignity.
