An agent's guide to 🌊BENEATH THESE TREACHEROUS WAVES🌊 a queer, adult reimagining of Andersen's The Little Mermaid in an Iceland-inspired setting. #amquerying #agentguide #agentsguide #ownvoices #writingcommunity #writesky #writersky #booksky

Underwater image showing a mermaid’s tail. Overlaid text reads: Beneath These Treacherous Waves - Sapphic reimagining of The Little Mermaid set in the dark, icy north. 105k adult romantic fantasy.

PITCH: Míra, a siren warrior princess, loses all memories of her beloved Skadi when she agrees to marry a human king in exchange for military aid. Skadi the mer Spellweaver strikes a bargain with her deity: if Míra falls in love with her again, her memories will return. But if she gives her heart to another first, Skadi will become the god’s thrall forever.

COMPS, showing two book covers. On the left is is Malice by Heather Walter with arrows labeled: touch her and you die, fairytale retelling, magic comes at a price, feminine rage and YEARNING. On the right is A Taste of Gold and Iron by Alexandra Rowland with arrows labeled: YEARING, queernorm world, love vs duty, and found family.

EXCERPT: "The servant led her to a gold-embossed mirror Míra had avoided until now, dreading to face what she had become.
A stranger stared back at her. Her skin had lost its opalescent shine, scales replaced by freckles spilling across her cheeks, shoulders, and chest. She opened her hand, and the reflection did too. The webbing was gone between her fingers, her claws receded into round pink nails. The only thing familiar was her hair, red as sunrise, molten lava, a battlefield.
She wore a deep blue dress that was too tight, stretching on her shoulders and back, made for someone shorter and daintier. She’d scavenged tattered human clothes from among the ruins of sunken ships to play pretend as a child, but it had never occurred to her that she would one day be forced to wear one."

The opening paragraph of my Iceland-inspired sapphic Little Mermaid retelling 🌊 #DVparty #A #F #LGBT

A moody picture with the title “Beneath These Treacherous Waves” at the top. Below the title, a passage reads: “Alda’s face was as beautiful in death as it had been in life. Míra forced herself to take in every little detail—the carved planes of her cheekbones, the small pearl of a nose, the deep brown hair fanning out in the ocean current. In a cruel twist of fate, this was the first time since the war began that Míra had seen her friend truly at peace.” The faint silhouette of a swimming merfolk is in the background.

I'M OBSESSED ❤️😭 thank you @kaidenchi.bsky.social for this beautiful illustration of my mermaid book characters

A group of friends and lovers relax together on a blanket. A woman with long red hair, fish scales, and freckles on her face has her arm around another woman resting on her lap. The red-haired woman is wearing a white linen shirt. The woman on her lap has long black hair and horns adorned with silver chains, and she is dressed in a long black gown. Beside them are two men: one is blonde, wearing a white flower crown, a green-blue embroidered shirt, and round glasses. He's reading a book. The other man has long black hair, olive skin, and is wearing a dark burgundy shirt. He has a pipe in one hand and he's gently playing with the blonde man's hair with the other.

The Little Mermaid X Malice X A Taste of Gold and Iron "Malik was late, and for the first time in his life, Ren found himself hoping the mission would fail. Suffering King Henning’s wrath—and ending up on the gallows—would’ve been a better fate than having a mer as his queen." #1stLinePit #A #F #Q

Beneath These Treacherous Waves: Míra, a siren princess, has her memories of her beloved Skadi forcibly erased when she is offered in marriage to a human king in exchange for military aid in a relentless war. Unwilling to accept their fate, Skadi strikes a desperate bargain with an ancient deity: if Míra falls in love with her again, her memories will return. But if she confesses her love to another first, Skadi will become the god’s thrall forever.

there's a brutal storm that sounds like plane turbines right next to my ears, lightning and thunder (very rare this far north, my 3rd time experiencing them in 10+years) but the cat doesn’t care. In fact, I suspect she’s the one who conjured the bad weather just so we'd stay home with her

Can't believe that this draft is done!✨ I'd like to thank my espresso machine, a steady supply of pistachio ice cream, and Talisker for getting me through it. Extra special mention to @vcrarts.bsky.social without whom I'd have given up at least 285 times. ❤️
