I rarely post nowadays as I just don't have anything to say on social media, but today, many years after writing it, the complete version of my novel 'Eidolon' is now available in both paperback (amzn.eu/d/04J6w7Tx) and eBook (amzn.eu/d/06NngTZS).

The far right putting the St George's flag on lampposts is an insidious way of backing councils and politicians into a corner, so they have to choose between being 'unpatriotic' or supporting racists. Best answer I can think of: every flag they put up, put a rainbow up one next to it

It's telling that on the rare occasion I go for a run, my legs and lungs aren't particularly troubled, but it takes 10-15 minutes for my neck to loosen up enough to be comfortable...

Wanted to watch Frieren after seeing some clips on Tiktok, but seven episodes in, has turned out to be much more than I was expecting.

Evening game of 5-a-side marred somewhat by getting an inadvertent elbow to the throat near the end. Now reminded of that elbow to the throat every time I swallow.

Social media's bias toward those who post frequently, both algorithmic amplification and their sheer mass on any given feed, unfortunately means when an infrequent poster feels like they have something to say, I suspect they'd do better pissing in the wind. Am I wrong?

I'm currently writing an audio sitcom because no one else is going to write an intrusion fantasy (a subgenre I've just become aware of) about mixed 5-a-side. A few chapters in, it's apparent that making sure each character has a distinct comedic approach is pretty fundamental...

Being a person with deadly, incurable cancer who is nonetheless still alive for an indefinite timeframe gives me an interesting metaphor that helps me deal with things like large-scale corruption in government or commerce. Bear with me for a second while I try to explain.

This year will be the 30th anniversary of me completing my first novel. It's also the year where my latest royalty statement says my latest book, released last June, has sold 3 copies to date. One of which was bought by me. Not a tremendous success, but it's fine. Probably as good as I expected.

One of my friends, a fellow writer with a small press publisher, went viral with tweet a few days ago about selling only two books at an event and has now become a bestseller: www.bbc.com/news/article...!

Writing a definition for a thing without referenced that thing in your definition can be stupidly brain-taxing, so kudos to all the dictionary writers.

Designing a complex data migration flowchart and have the internal dialogue: "how can I add this bit in a way that doesn't look messy?", "surely representing the logical steps is more important than worrying about aesthetics?", "but the logic of the steps won't be clear if the aesthetics are messy!"

So most writing is about cause and effect and the meaning behind it, but I always find it a bit unsatisfying to realise getting from A to E requires B, C and D to happen in between. If it's logically inevitable, then surely it's not so fun?

Had an epiphany last night that my audio series, which had too many characters but also requires too many characters, can be fixed by simply having one character never speak. They play a part without requiring anyone to play the part.

For any new Blue-sky users who haven't checked out the moderation settings, that really is what sets it apart for me. Block words, tags, users to suit your personal preferences; definitely helps with mental health management.

Many years ago, I made some films and videos with friends with the vague hope of going viral and 'making it' in the industry. Fun times. But now I belatedly realise simply making stuff with friends should have been reason enough on its own. youtu.be/AUyPOoAix6s?...

While I've got a possibly mainstream crime fiction novel on a second draft, that's stalled and I've started on an urban fantasy audio series about a mixed 5-a-side team... which surely has a tiny potential audience, but also means I don't feel like I have to agonise over every word quite so much.

On the off chance my latest work in progress warrants a sequel, I've been mulling ideas for a sequel, only to realise most of my books written or planned explore the same theme over and over (albeit sometimes with spies, sometimes with dragons, sometimes with interdimensional spoons).
