So I expect bad comments when I make YouTube videos on biking, but this one's something else
A YouTube comment from @NosebergEatzbugsVonShekelstein that says "I'm sure they will let you ride your bike to North Halsted, between Belmont and Addison. You look like the kind of fella that would spend a lot of his free time down there."

I need everyone who thinks you can't bike in Chicago for six months to name the months. The average temperature in FEBRUARY this year was 36°, and by late March I was wearing a T-shirt! In 2025 there were only FOUR months with SOME days fully below freezing (www.weather.gov/lot/2025Cale...)

Honestly I think making more content just showing off the deals you can get really helps - I had two screenshots from Edmunds in a road tripping article I wrote (viktorkoves.com/2026/08/24/e...) to just show like hey you can get way nicer cars for way less money when they're electric - just go look!

Alright, it should be better now! I tightened up a bunch of general UI and also made the stats collapsible, so that you still see the top level stats but have half the screen for map. Let me know how that is!

100%! It was great in the lower level of Amtrak too, no trouble at all. I've heard it could fit up as a carry on, but I couldn't get that to work when I tried later out of curiosity

I also loved the architecture of the museum itself - it was open and inviting with a really fun open center stairwell that had the cafe. It really felt like the focal point of the building energetically too, since that's where people would hang out and work or have lunch

In something a little lighter, the Minneapolis Institute of Art is a gem. Like the Art Institute of Chicago, it's bigger than it looks and impossible to cover in one day. Unlike AIC, it's totally free!

Lastly we have a very extensive bike share system with Divvy that has like a thousand stations and 20,000 bikes, so you'll see a lot of tourists but also commuters with memberships riding those, similar to NYC. That seemed more rare in Minneapolis

I would say we are starting to have more protected lanes, but they're typically narrow and one on each side - there's almost none curb level. We also have a lot of contraflows to create two way neighborhood green ways, which are easier politically

I also paid a visit to some of the memorials of important and dark days in Minneapolis history. It's devastating, but I couldn't come back to Minneapolis without stopping by.

I mean truly, flowers everywhere, including a beautiful pollinator garden with monarchs and moths in front of the Minneapolis Institute of Art, and even flowers between the Bryant bike lane and the sidewalk! I'm curious if these are parkways like Chicago, where the property owner can plant stuff

Did you think I was done Minneapolis posting because I'm back in Chicago? Here's some bonus photos off the camera, more artsy and less infrastructure focused. First off, something striking about Minneapolis is how lush it is - way less lawns, way more beautiful wild gardens! 🧵

Also at Bryant Lake Bowl I was talking to a lovely lesbian couple about how there are more people just walking around Chicago, and 7:30 downtown on a weeknight feels busier than mid day walking around most places in Minneapolis. Might be density or walking culture? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Oh one other thing I noticed on Bryant - drainage! Since the bike lane was part of a full street redesign, it slopes down to the roadway, with drains on both sides. I didn't get to see any large amounts of rain, but I'm guessing this keeps the bike lane from flooding like Chicago often has
