Have also been working with Filo Project - visiting their home host programme & supporting their asks on funding and taxation. There is so much we need to do to reduce the impact of dementia on those living with it, their families and indeed the councils who are struggling to fund it

This week is #KinshipCareWeek. Kinship carers are family members or close friends who take on the care of a child when their parents are unable to do so. It was brilliant to meet with Lesley who is part of the Kinship Charity, and to hear more about the important support the charity provides.

Every school should have a Young Carers Champion. I've called for a meeting with the Minister for Children and Families and the MYTIME CEO to keep pushing for this important change. The upcoming Education for All Bill gives us a real opportunity to make Young Carer Champions a legal requirement.

Did you know 8 of the top 10 recycling councils in England are Lib Dem led? Mid Suffolk, a Green majority council, ranks 162nd, and Brighton was among the worst in the country when they ran it. @ollygrender.bsky.social put the figures to the government in the Lords in April.

Yes. When state pension started there were 9 working age people to every retiree, by 1950s it was 5 now it is 2.5 pensioners lived 3-5 yrs. now it’s 15 We have to address the 🐘 in the room. We need working age, taxpayers to make our society function. Even with every NEET working we need migration

On National Poetry Day, I’m celebrating Dorset’s own Thomas Hardy, whose poetry and novels were inspired by the landscapes of our county. One of my favourites is Weathers, where Hardy contrasts the fresh optimism of spring with the soft, rain-soaked transition into winter.

Is there a better way to spend a morning than nature spotting at a chalk stream? Our local River Allen is a rare sanctuary for all sorts of unique species, and more must be done to protect it - I'm so grateful to Mary and James for sharing their wealth of natural knowledge with me.
