The Boston Red Sox have yet to score in 13 playoff innings. In their last 13 1/2 games, including the current one, they have averaged less than 2 runs per game (25 total).

This is correct - the truth value of an LLM output is essentially zero. Errors are not "hallucinations" they're probabilistic results given when the system runs out of data or has poor data. The system is performing as intended. Even at 90+% probability, that means *a lot* of answers are wrong.

I graduated med school in 2014. I was taught-and saw-how hard melanoma was to treat, like a death sentence Since then, new treatments have made it possible for people w/ the most advanced melanoma, like Jimmy Carter, to live to 100! We are killing ourselves by letting them destroy American science

Joe Romm gave one of the most memorable talks I’ve ever heard at Columbia many years ago. Among other things, he said, “Sustainable development is like teenage sex. Everybody says they're doing it, very few people actually are, and those who are doing it are doing it badly.” RIP legend.

With the new media environment including this free website, STEM practitioners attain status in different ways, among different groups.

Tim Clancy @viewfromarchstreet.com · 18/09/2026
Status of STEM practitioners within/among other groups such as the general public was deemed (by STEM practitioners themselves) less important. Example: Sagan was often criticized in-group for his public works.

Great question -- there's no right answer but my view is that STEM practitioners historically have had, and sought status within their peer groups.
