Specifically though, we're using Voice Drive to add the grit to it but the secret sauce is using Fruity Peak Controller to nab the level of the vocals and patcher to feed that into the Effect Level of Voice Drive. This way we can tune it so it only engages on the loud parts and consonants stay clear

Fun fact, I'm kind of terrible at animating in 2D so for the little 2D animated bit in the BIRDBRAIN cover I just made it in blender and traced the frames in procreate and the scene looks like this. (I had to shrink a bunch of tetos body to not stick through the transparency)

Literally just found out last night that you can right click a plugin to get a list of inputs and ouput channels / parameters that can be exposed and then you can make a lil control surface and just plug your knobs in.
