Heaven 17 last night. I really wanted one of those baseball caps, but, unfortunately, they make me look like that cartoon bloke from the old 7-Up advert. Anyway, this is the best gig I've seen this year. Absolute bangers from start to finish, including this, which they started with.

Let's not piss about. Saying, "But look at what City's success has done for the city of Manchester" is akin to saying, "That bloke did raise shitloads of money for Stoke Mandeville Hospital".

Travelling to Bristol Airport this morning was a nightmare. The usual diversions because they'd shut the tunnel (every single time). But roadworks in Bristol and terrible signage sent me to a cul de sac in a council estate. A bloke in a roadworks lorry told me to go back the way I'd come and...

This is great. From 1989, William Shatner (95 last March) being surprised by Michael Aspel (93 last January). Both still sprightly, then and now.

10

I saw Bruce Forsyth on his last tour in 2015. I'd waited years to see him, and it was a fantastic night. Brilliant. "BUT..." When he came on, he pulled out a bit of paper and pretended to read from it. "Nice to see you... well, you know the rest" Why, Brucie? We were all waiting to shout, "Nice!"

Really sad news about the sudden passing of the brilliant Tim Brown. Most won't know him, but many do for his superb drumming with acts like the Classic Rock Show, various tributes to bands as diverse as Blur, The Carpenters, Michael Jackson and the Dave Evans Band, and for many years...

So here's my take. Tuchel's tactics and subs weren't "unfathomable". England were already in trouble because the team was retreating. He bolstered the defence. It didn't come off. He could have bolstered the attack, and that would have come with its own risks. Argentina's subs all made a difference

Everyone's a football tactics expert today. Including, in large numbers, people starting their sentences with "I don't know anything about football, but..." Last time we saw anything like this, we were talking about R-rates during Covid.

One of the things I do like about this Spain side is the liberal sprinkling of young men with hair that's already showing signs of thinning. That was a staple of all teams when I was growing up. It's quite rare these days.

Just keep an eye on him if he pulls his phone out of his pocket, that's all I'm saying.
Dot Cottan's text message in the final episode of the fourth series of Line of Duty. He'd been working as a mole within the police force, and was being interviewed by AC12, who had been investigating him as part of a wider investigation into corruption and infiltration by organised crime groups. The jig was up for him, so he sent this text, sparking off a quick and violent series of events that led to his death.
