And that’s a wrap on Labour Conference! Great discussions on youth, gambling, digital inclusion, loneliness and civil society, and brilliant to meet so many engaged attendees. A highlight was Lisa Nandy announcing 1,000 new youth workers to support young people across the UK.

Fantastic news! The Gov has awarded huge funding for a heat network that will use recycled heat to warm 650,000 homes across London, including in Lewisham North. Heating our homes currently accounts for around a fifth of the UK's emissions. 🌍 www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cxe87mp…

It's International Day of Sign Languages. This year’s theme, “Declaring Deaf People’s Human Rights”, highlights that access and inclusion are rights, not privileges. Here's me in 2021 asking the first known PMQ in BSL, raising concerns about Deaf people's access to vital Covid information.

How is the Government going to protect creative jobs as AI grows? How can working-class creatives access the sector and sustain a living? Great to hear attendees share worries, ideas and solutions at my roundtable. Lewisham North’s creative network is incredible and I’m committed to nourishing it.

Thrilled to join St Peter's Brockley on Sunday to open their new garden space for children and young people. After months of hard work, the team have turned an empty patch by the church into a beautiful place for local kids to play and relax. Such a warm reception - thank you for the invite!

Thoroughly enjoyed being at The Den for Millwall’s 4-0 win vs Bolton this afternoon. It was particularly lovely catching up with Chairman James Berylson. Today was bittersweet as my Dad was a huge Bolton fan and we went to many matches together. Nevertheless, I’m excited for the season ahead 🔵⚽

It’s not often I’m asked how I came to be an MP. I moved to Lewisham North over 20 years ago, became a Brockley Councillor, and I’ve spent every year since standing up for those pushed to the margins. Enjoyed reflecting on anecdotes like this one in my '650 podcast' episode.

If you fly-tip in Lewisham North, you could soon be the one cleaning it up and paying for it. Under new Gov proposals, fly-tippers could be forced into clean-up squads, spending their own time clearing up the waste they've dumped and paying towards the cost of putting things right. 🧵

(1/2) I know how de-stabilising it is to be without a permanent place to call home. While councils delivered around 10,600 homes in 2024/25 - the most in a single year since 1991/92 - the waitlist for social housing remains too long.

A second fire @lewishamcouncil's Reuse & Recycling Centre in three months is unacceptable. My constituents cannot live with their windows closed indefinitely. I have asked @liamshrivastava for an urgent update on the situation.
Copy of Vicky's letter on House of Commons paper with a green portcullis in the top left corner.

Full text as follows:

Dear Mayor Shrivastava,

Re: Fires at Lewisham Reuse and Recycling Centre (Landmann Way)

I am extremely concerned that yet another fire has broken out at the local Reuse and Recycling Centre. This is the second since the Green party took control of the Lewisham Council and local public infrastructure.

Thanks to our fantastic emergency services, I understand no one has been hurt. This incident will have a lasting impact on air quality in a densely populated area - asking local residents to close their windows at the height of summer is not good enough.

My constituents need reassurance about the safety of their households.

Can you explain how the site reopened so quickly and what measures will be taken to ensure this doesn’t happen again?

I welcome an urgent response and regular updates from you on the situation.

Yours sincerely

Vicky Foxcroft MP
