Thanks for my Birthday wishes all; YES I am actually 75 today. After breakfast I opened my cards and presents; a Trekmates Gore-Tex Bamford GTX Hat and a honey bee sunflower mug (here with Marzipan and newcomer Pumpkin helping with the display).

Rationalised my desk to Thinkstation P3, Pixel & Thinkpad X1; all running Linux Mint. Tablet replaced by a Chromebook Plus. Completed with a docking station, two Logitech webcams & two external DVD drives. Sound by Cyrus. Milli Mouse holds laptop lids slightly open to improve docked cooling :-)

I started clearing the glory hole that is our Computer corner because Openreach is coming on Wednesday afternoon to create havoc installing Fibre Broadband. The corner hadn't been cleared for about 20yrs so the mess was extraordinary. Fortunately the electrics were split computer/phone and domestic.

Time I bought some new clothes. Looking at Facebook memories I realise that I am wearing the same outfit today that I was wearing in 2018 at the Kent Rare Breeds Farm. The same T-shirt, shorts, hat and sandals ;-)

How quickly your life can turn; a bit of a senior moment. Tripped on the pavement going shopping. My hands couldn't break my fall & my chin hit the pavement; harder than I have ever been hit before. Two ladies & Elizabeth helped me up & back to the house for treatment before going out again :-)

Commonwealth Games opened in Glasgow? BBC this morning hidden at the bottom of the page! Commonwealth Leaders were there including our PM. These are our main allies in the Environmental Crisis. They are looking for British Leadership. The largest political block in the world; our Global Community.

Don't you know; my life used to be in turmoil? Don't you know; I used to write Poetry to make sense of my senseless existence? I survived!!! We don't go down without a fight guys - winks ;-)

Whew its 28C. Back home from this morning's Meeting, I set up our AirCon unit with the help of Coffee and the Beaks lending paws and flippers :-)

This makes me cry; it encapsulates our global crisis. This brave little Giraffe looking out at a hostile world. I thought she was in quarantine with 2 adults; the rest of the wonderful Marwell herd grazing. No this was the herd. Our elders & Profs have blown it. Wake up humanity #6thMassExtinction

I think the World Cup is the most important event going on in the world this Summer (Boston Police Officer showing the world that their current US stereotypes are completely wrong www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jrfo... ). People around the world need reassuring that the real America is still there ;-)

My Memoirs seized up & hard to see me achieving any kind of finished product. A new approach was needed. I have constructed a framework of Indexes to take Chapters rewritten as dated Essays to be dropped in on completion. That way my Memoirs are always both a work in progress & a completed document.

Whilst sitting in a waiting room saying I cant think of a theme for a new photo show, Elizabeth suggested the Pandemic. I had a look through my photo folders. So this is it, Pandora's Masque; street photography during the Covid Pandemic ;-)

Just started using Google Keep for taking notes on my phone to paste into my Diary when I get home. Works well. The phone also provides the photos for context. Yes I could write the notes into my organiser but then I would have to type it when I get home. I just record key words & details ;-)

Home Digital Sovereignty & Security? I've been taking it seriously since 2003. All my computers run Linux & this is my Database; my Diary that stretches back to 1800, incorporating Family History, inspired by Hypercard, written in Raw HTML. I don't use password savers except for non-essentials ;-)

Geologists don't get it; why I gave up my Fellowship of the Geological Society & scuttled back to the Inst Phys. Animals are alive so, they fail to notice the decline by 73%. This is not the new Anthropocene (cant believe they ignore the biggest event in their career); this is #6thMassExtinction

Despite severe sciatica, we went shopping at Sainsburys. Walking back up Drayman's Way, in the sunshine with the trees bursting into leaf, it is hard to imagine now that in 2022 this was a huge Brewery demolition site. The River Wey Walk from the High Street to the Kings Pond is now a delight ;-)

After my bath, the Moon and Venus were looking brilliant in the North West. Aldebaran was also noticeable in the image, just in the frame above the tree, to the left of the Moon ;-)

I should have known better than to ask Racccoon to supervise the installation of Ubuntu 26.04 LTS "Resolute Raccoon" on my Lenovo ThinkPad X1 on the 13th of the Month; what was I thinking? It all went wrong. So I decided to go back to Mint and re-installed Mint 22.2 LTE - sigh ;-)

Xmas came late. Elizabeth kept asking what I wanted for Xmas; I didn't have a clue. Finally she jumped in as I was shopping on Amazon and bought me a Trolley for my Golf Bag ;-)

Happy Celtic Easter (Ostara) everybody. No I am not a pagan; I am just sick of the cynical modern world rewriting traditions. The 21st March is the traditional Spring Solstice ;-)

Oh no, I have caught the Golf bug again after not playing for 2yrs. I thoroughly enjoyed the range at Worldham Golf Club Alton yesterday. I sorted out my carry bag & decided to finally replace my 1i driving iron (weapon of choice at Target Golf) with the 3i version I bought first in 2015 ;-)

Excitement is through the roof; my new Nikon D780 has arrived. I hated the image colours last time I owned one but, this time I intend to sort that out & match it to my D610 and other cameras that I own. I love the camera but, it just didn't match my other cameras ;-)

Am I the only one who is disgusted at the bombing raids on Iran. For a start its Ramadan and shows a complete disrespect for the ordinary people. Worse still they are bombing Nuclear Facilities; even Russia doesn't do that!!! Only the ignorant & insane create contamination. Worse than genocide.

Vici @vicibox.bsky.social · 23/02/2026

Gosh a lot of work pushing a lifetime into a Memoir but, its now sorted into Volumes 1, 2 & 3. I've just finished the structure & can now edit & add new, into a complete story. This is the front page that I completed this morning. It is going to be a busy year - winks ;-)

000

Vici @vicibox.bsky.social · 21/02/2026

I am a vocational Scientist so, writing my Memoirs I've struggled about what to include at the end? I have decided warts an all. I will add the warts as an Appendix. I decided this stuff matters to my career so have added it. So now you have to put up with me lobbying on Environment - winks ;-)

000

Vici @vicibox.bsky.social · 20/02/2026

It has been a heavy year with the old world order falling and the Environmental Crisis needing my constant attention; my writing has suffered. So, I have restructured my Memoirs & got them back in shape. The text editor is busy making sense of folders full of Chapters looking for a home. Fun ;-)

My Mum would have been 98 today. This was her Wedding day 14/01/1950. My father was a Society Photographer & this was taken by his London KenMoore Studios partner who put it in the dailies. Post Smog we lived here after 1954. Yes I'm named after Dad & his Mum Julia (Vici Julianna). Rest easy Mum ;-)

Happy World Wetlands Day. With a 73% decline in species populations since 1970 there has never been a more urgent need to preserve what is left before the 6th Mass Extinction drags us all into the abyss. Wetlands are crucial to our own survival ;-)

In October the Library PCs all stopped working except for a small laptop added for admin. The PCs are all working again & I notice they are now running ChromeOS. Microsoft has committed global suicide. Nobody is upgrading they are all switching. Nobody will dump good equipment to suit US oligarchs.

COP26 we distanced & globally 7,107,212 died from Covid; by COP30 we had become less resilient. Now the buffers loom by 2035. I feel as helpless as a Bronze Age Minoan. A Dark Age now would be mercy. I no longer know what else I can do to help. I am old & talking to the deaf #6thMassExtinction

Feeling the upsurge of my demons more than ever this Xmas; I even went to the Quaker meeting to try calm my mind. My life has been torn between Earth & Surface Science versus Art & Writing. My mind lately has been dominated by remembering my Harwell science years ;-)

Happy 2026. 2025 I've noticed my health decline & am feeling my 74yr. During COP26 in 2021 I predicted 2025 would be the year from hell. It was far worse than that. Data from the Global Heating Emergency Conference & COP30 showed things globally worse than predicted; the buffers now moved to 2035.
