Each day I ask: what does it mean to be free, and to succeed, without breaking our bond with life or our reverence for it?

Maybe I'm wrong, but I find people who are ignorant easier to live with than people who are indifferent. Someone who doesn't know can still discover the truth. What I still can't wrap my head around is how someone can recognize unnecessary suffering and still remain indifferent to it.

When I look at the state of the world, particularly the unnecessary suffering we continue to create, I keep coming back to one question: How can a species capable of reflecting on its own existence continue to live with so little awareness of the impact it has on other lives?

The more I think about it, the stranger modern life seems. When I step back and look at what a human being actually needs, the list isn't very long. Yet most people spend the majority of their lives struggling to maintain things that go far beyond those needs...

The names we give to things can shape how we experience them. "Meat" feels very different from "the body of an animal." Most people would hesitate to say they are eating the body of a pig. It feels easier to talk about eating bacon...

I just spoke with someone who told me he'd rather spend some time in jail than stop eating meat for a while...

One thing I've noticed: Most people can clearly see suffering and injustice, especially when someone else is causing it. The difficulty begins when ending it threatens our own convenience.

Sometimes I think the real divide isn't between vegans and non-vegans. It's between people willing to follow a thought to its conclusion... and people who stop when the conclusion becomes inconvenient.

People often ask vegans: "Do you think you're morally superior?" It's a fascinating question. Because it reveals how difficult it can be to believe that someone might change their behavior simply because they think it's the right thing to do.

One of the weirdest things about being vegan is watching people passionately argue that unnecessary suffering is wrong... right before explaining why animals are the exception.

Imagine for a moment that this life was just a bad nightmare happening right now and one day we'll all wake up from it and meet the real us in a totally different reality. Yeah, just fantasizing. But honestly, I wonder what that would do to relationships.

You’ve probably heard many times that everything starts as an idea. Sounds believable enough right? But then I started wondering:

Modern life has made it possible to improve almost every part of a human life individually while the whole quietly falls apart. You can improve income while losing peace. Improve convenience while losing health. Increase connection while feeling more alone.

One of the most important questions a human being can ask is: “Does the way I’m living actually produce the kind of life and world I want?”

Imagine for a moment you had been born to different parents, in a different country, under different assumptions... How much of what currently feels like "you" would still remain?

One of the strangest things about being human is realizing that something can stand directly in front of you for years before you truly see it. Which makes me wonder: What is the difference between looking and seeing?

I used to think conscience was the deepest force shaping human behavior. I'm no longer sure.. 1/3

The more I observe the world, the more one pattern stands out: Human beings can adapt to almost anything if enough people around them treat it as normal.

Awareness alone changes almost nothing. People can know better while continuing to participate in what weakens them. Take smoking... 🧵

Everyone talks about “the matrix” like it’s some machine out there controlling everything. There is no machine. It’s in how you think. What you accept. What you don’t question. Get enough people thinking that way and it starts to feel like a system...

The truth isn’t the hard part. Living without betraying it is.

You’re not trapped in the system. It runs on what you don’t question.

It’s easy to feel like a good person when you don’t look too closely at what your life depends on.

Vic Asouzu @vicasouzu.bsky.social · 15/04/2026
Most harm doesn’t come from bad people. It comes from ordinary people who learned to ignore what doesn’t feel right.
054
Vic Asouzu @vicasouzu.bsky.social · 14/04/2026
You don’t have to be cruel to be part of something cruel. You just have to keep participating without looking too closely.

Vic Asouzu @vicasouzu.bsky.social · 13/04/2026
Most people think the problem is ignorance. It isn’t. Plenty of people see exactly what’s wrong and continue anyway. Truth-sensitive people don’t get that distance. They feel it in real time, right there as they go along, or when they disagree but keep quiet. That’s what wears you down.

Vic Asouzu @vicasouzu.bsky.social · 11/04/2026
You don’t build your life in isolation. You step into something that’s already in motion. So you end up holding two lives. One that pays the bills. And one that actually feels like yours...

Vic Asouzu @vicasouzu.bsky.social · 10/04/2026
The worst place to be isn’t confusion. It’s knowing you depend on systems you don’t respect. You see it. You know it. But still you can’t fully step out without cost. You want to live in alignment but you can’t afford to collapse. So you keep moving with that quiet conflict in your chest.

Vic Asouzu @vicasouzu.bsky.social · 06/04/2026
When harm becomes normal, you don’t just accept it. You adjust to it. You see what’s done to animals and learn not to feel much. That doesn’t stay contained. It follows you. Into who you take seriously, who you ignore, and what you allow. You become someone who can look and not react.
053
Vic Asouzu @vicasouzu.bsky.social · 03/04/2026
Society doesn’t need to control you. It just needs to make something feel normal. What feels normal feels right. And what feels right rarely gets questioned. That’s how you end up living a life you never chose.
032
Vic Asouzu @vicasouzu.bsky.social · 20/03/2026
Veganism doesn’t just question how we treat animals. It exposes a pattern. Most harm is hidden. You don’t see it clearly. But the first time you really see it, you feel it in your body. It doesn’t sit right. But you learn to continue anyway. And slowly, you stop hearing that voice.

Veganism is essentially a peace movement ☮️ An ethical boycott of all animal exploitation. A means to reduce deforestation, land grabs & food insecurity. The most effective action we can to mitigate oncoming climate chaos. A pathway to a better world 🌎💚

War rarely begins with the first shot. It begins during times that seem peaceful. Those are the times when nations quietly design and stockpile the weapons of war. What we call peace is often just the time spent preparing for the next war.

Most harmful systems survive for one simple reason. Once harm becomes normal, people stop seeing it. And once something is normal, questioning it looks radical.

Vic Asouzu @vicasouzu.bsky.social · 13/03/2026
An animal’s life becomes a product the moment its story disappears. What remains is a label, a recipe, a clean plastic package and a name that helps us forget what it used to be. Some kinds of normal depend on that story never being told.

Most people don’t consciously choose their worldview. They inherit it. Then they spend years defending it as if they personally built it. That’s why questioning it can feel like betrayal. Even when it’s the beginning of thinking for yourself.

Ask a child where meat comes from. Watch their face the first time they understand. That reaction is closer to the truth than most of what adults say.

Teach a child that animals are fellow beings, not resources, and eating them would feel as strange as eating a neighbor. That’s the quiet power of culture. It decides what feels normal long before anyone thinks to question it.

Most people already know what needs to happen. Send the message. Have the conversation. Change the habit. But instead we silently tell ourselves: Not today. Not yet. Maybe tomorrow. This is how people slowly drift away from what they know is right.

Vic Asouzu @vicasouzu.bsky.social · 07/03/2026
People rarely ruin their life in one big decision. It happens slowly. Ignoring what your body keeps trying to tell you. Avoiding the conversation you know you need to have. Telling yourself you'll deal with it tomorrow. Years pass like this. Until one day you decide you can’t ignore it anymore.

Vic Asouzu @vicasouzu.bsky.social · 06/03/2026
Most people already know what they should change in their lives. They feel it in their health. In their relationships. In the way they spend their days. But knowing alone doesn't change a life. The real struggle is living what we already know.

Vic Asouzu @vicasouzu.bsky.social · 05/03/2026
I went silent for a few days. Sometimes you have to step away from the noise to hear your own conscience again. Most people already know what is right. The quiet struggle is living it. Back to practice.

It’s easy to say you care about life. Living like you mean it means raising your standards. It shows in how you train, what you eat, how you speak, and what you do when no one’s watching.
032
Vic Asouzu @vicasouzu.bsky.social · 27/02/2026
Life is not disposable. Neither are you. Stop treating your body, your time, and your words like they’re cheap. Standards rise when sacred things are handled with care.

Integrity isn’t what you say you believe. It’s what you refuse to support when conformity and silence would be easier.

If harm isn’t necessary why are we still paying for it? That question doesn’t stop at food.
063
Vic Asouzu @vicasouzu.bsky.social · 15/02/2026
Veganism isn’t extreme. It’s a simple threshold: If harm isn’t necessary, stop funding it. The resistance isn’t confusion. It’s not wanting to give up your favorite pleasure.

What would change if slaughterhouses weren’t kept out of sight? Not tucked away in industrial zones or sealed off behind walls...

In 50 years, most of us won’t be here. But what we normalized today will. The question will be simple one day: Why were billions of animals killed when another way already existed? History doesn’t argue. It records.

People call vegan food “unnatural” while eating something built on confinement, fear, and death they never had to witness. If you don’t have to see it, you don’t have to feel it. And that’s what passes for “natural.”
