Play is sacred. I’m a TTRPG designer interested in making games that evoke hope during dark times. I approach the gaming table with reverence and my craft with devotion.

What was your first experience with a #ttprg? Read about how roleplaying snuck into my childhood at The Vesperholm Register: vesperholm.substack.com/p/ludogenesi...
But, like all children of that era, I spent a good deal of my days outdoors engaged, alone or with friends, in games of imagination. I have distinct memories of re-enacting scenes from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and making up new ones, with my cousins in the woods on our grandfather’s farm. I understand now that I was LARPing.

It is with great reverence that I announce the inaugural issue of The Vesperholm Register. Subscribers will be blessed at least once per month with updates on game development and musings from the designer. vesperholm.substack.com/p/ludogenesi...

Went shopping at my FLGS. I don’t have the core books for these games and neither did they. Not gonna let that stop me from spending money though. 😤

My family left me at home for the afternoon to go swimming at my brother-in-law’s. There was no discussion about adopting a kitten. And yet, I am told an application is being made.

Scamper's first draft is officially in development. Here's the core resolution mechanic to give you a taste. #ttrpgdesign
Success Tests
Roll a Twenty-Sided Die
Whenever your Bodeling attempts to do something risky, the Housekeeper will ask you to make a success test by rolling a twenty-sided die (d20) against one of your Bodeling’s current attribute scores (Tumble, Tiptoe, Tinker, Terrify, or Twist). To succeed, you need to roll equal to or less than your score in the attribute the Housekeeper indicates. If you roll a higher number than your attribute score, your Bodeling fails at whatever they’re attempting, and the Housekeeper gets an opportunity to act, introducing some complication or consequence. It’s usually as simple as that.
Degrees of Success… or Failure
In some cases, when you succeed, you will subtract the number you roll from your attribute score, except in the case of a critical success (see below). The result determines the impact of your action.
In rare cases, when you fail, you will subtract your attribute score from the number you roll. That result determines just how bad the outcome is for you and possibly your fellow Bodelings as well.
Critical Success
When your die roll equals your current attribute score, it’s a critical success. You perform whatever action you’re attempting at maximum reasonable effectiveness.

Writing on Scamper, my first TTRPG, has officially begun after years of musing and, more recently, months of research, note jotting, and noodling.

Watched Avatar: Fire and Ash yesterday. Oona Chaplin and the team that animated Varang deserve all the awards. Absolute show-stealer.

You are Bodelings: tiny, fantastical creatures reclaiming a haunted mansion. Outside the hidden safety of your home in the walls, the house looms: sprawling with mystery, danger, and shiny objects to steal. Scamper is Vesperholm's first cozy-gothic TTRPG - stay tuned for news about its development!
A black-and-white woodcut-style illustration of a small gnome-like house spirit in a pointed cap, crouched on hands and knees before a large black cauldron sitting on a hearth. Flames lick up around the cauldron's base. The figure peers curiously into the pot, framed by dark, densely hatched shadows suggesting a dim interior room.
