gems in the grass— dewdrops mirroring the sun #poetry #poem #imageandverse #ECK #photography #nature #naturephotography #autumn #September #Season #sunlight #BlueSkyArtShow #Lights
From a very low camera angle, my gaze passes across my lawn. In the middle ground a few blades of grass are in sharp focus, while all the other grass in the foreground and background is blurred. The grass itself is not the subject, but rather the countless dewdrops clinging to it, catching the low, backlit rays of the morning sun. The carpet of grass becomes a carpet of glitter. The wide-open aperture of the camera turns the dewdrops into sparkling bokeh.
And there are many reasons why I haven’t mowed the lawn. I truly, honestly have a lot of very good reasons for that. Really!

In the park of Sanssouci Palace: If we could all accept the Prussian King’s invitation to live “sans souci” – without worries, we could be modest philosophers. We would not need a palace. But flights of stairs would still be lovely. #PaintbyWords #stairs #EastCoastKin #art #photography #poetry
View of the Rococo-style palace complex of Sanssouci Palace, built from 1775 onwards by the Prussian King Frederick the Great. It is modelled on Versailles. In the picture you can see the stepped terraces that lead up through the vineyard to the palace. On this summer afternoon, numerous tourists are climbing the steps to visit the palace and to admire the surrounding park from above.

The crows take flight the moment the sun sets— the fear it will not return #poetry #poem #imageandverse #ECK #photography
The silhouette of a power pylon forms the focal point of the monochrome photograph. Power lines lead out of the frame to the right and left. Crows that were just perched on the lines have now taken flight, circling the pylon and creating a restless pattern of black silhouettes against a bright sky. In the foreground, the silhouettes of leafy trees can be seen. Overall, the image creates a disquieting atmosphere.

The image shows a section of a wooden jetty, with its brown larch planks occupying just over the left half of the frame. The right side of the image shows a white handrail, casting its shadow onto the wood of the jetty in the gentle afternoon light. View of a distant coastline, depicted as a thin line along the lower edge of the image. In front of it, dark water, grey‑green, without contours. Above the scene, an ominous, low‑hanging mass of cloud appears to be developing into a bad‑weather front.

Text of the poem:

A ferry sets off
while clouds hang low
Out at sea, the passengers notice
there is no captain on board
The clouds sink lower
The passengers look at the compass
Its needle turns aimlessly
The clouds sink lower
The passengers lock themselves in
Behind the portholes
they play cards
The clouds touch the deck

Empty bottles of various colours stand on a windowsill in front of a tall window, which features diamond-shaped panes. Bright daylight streams through the overexposed window, casting light on the bottles in the foreground and highlighting their colours and diverse shapes. Tall bottles, squat bottles, and smaller bottles are arranged loosely together. As the bottles are positioned in rows of three, varying densities of light permeability are created. In the lower third, hardly any light penetrates through the bottles, resulting in a very dark area, while the upper two-thirds of the portrait-mode photograph are occupied by the window.

What stories does the old barn tell, and who has the time to listen before the bulldozer arrives? #poetry #poem #imageandverse #EastCoastKin #photography #ClassicMono #LostPlace #abandoned #ruins
The monochrome photograph depicts the weathered, damaged and dilapidated barn. Ivy climbs up the brick walls, and the grass around the building is quite tall, suggesting that it has been a long time since anyone passed through the slightly ajar wooden door. The farm to which the barn belongs was abandoned some time ago, with the old farmer having passed away, and the buildings are being demolished. This forgotten place serves as a reminder of a time when small farms were still profitable, and people bought their potatoes directly at the farm. By now, all the buildings have long since disappeared, leaving only the tall grass behind.

The image of some trees is significantly underexposed, giving the impression of a night-time photograph. The supposed night shot displays the silhouette of a branching tree trunk in the foreground. In the middle ground, another tree is depicted, with most of its trunk and crown visible. In the background, additional trees can be seen. Behind the tree in the foreground, the full moon (actually: the sun) casts a bright glow, which sets the black tree silhouettes apart from the dark blue “night” sky.
