As Editor of @dev-journal.bsky.social I get asked "What are you doing about your impact factor?" In our new editorial we say: Ask not what Dev can do for the impact factor. Ask what you can do for Dev's IF The IF is about how we all cite, review & assess each other's work doi.org/10.1242/dev....

The elephant in the room: impact factor
Summary: This Editorial offers an honest look at impact factor trends in developmental biology, explains how Development serves its community, and makes the case that sustaining developmental biology ...

Oscillatory co-expression of HES1 and HES5 enables a hybrid state in a cross-repressive transcription factor regulatory motif
Highlighted Article: Expression of the cross-repressing proteins HES1 and HES5 is mutually exclusive but when they oscillate, a cell can express both, creating a hybrid state that later resolves into…

I’m really pleased to share that our paper is out in Developmental Cell! NGN3 oscillates in the developing pancreas and controls the timing of cell differentiation via an incoherent feed-forward motif. For more details check out the comments below and DOI: 10.1016/j.devcel.2025.06.004

Excited to share that my latest preprint! We use dual reporters and computation to explore the bistable HES1-HES5 motif and find that oscillations enable a hybrid state characterised by synchrony of HES1 and HES5 resolving into single HES during the development of mouse embryonic spinal cord.
