Time travel in Star Trek is weird, as is the Temporal Prime Directive. It seems that the first order of business in it is to not cause butterfly effects. The second is that once one has happened, don't try to fix it, just mitigate the damage. Basically, don't fuck with time on purpose.

There's actually a ton of lore around the Bozeman and why they got stranded in 2371. The sun slingshot required a genius who could out-math the computer to do. Not having Spock or a Borg Queen made this very difficult. Secondly, sending them back would apparently cause too much of a butterfly effect

I love FH2 so much. It still looks incredible thanks to its excellent lighting, and those roads are so good. The physics still feel the best in the series and the variety in the locations is amazing. I miss its heyday and the online services, cruising with friends. Incredible game.

I don't know why, but CBC news has been platforming idiots extolling the virtues of LLM AI seemingly every week on The Cost of Living. They have no corporate backing that could be forcing them, but the discussion is appallingly one-sided, and it's on the side of slop. Here's the email I wrote them.

We regularly listen to CBC in our household as a reliable and often entertaining source of information. However, of late I have been noticing a troubling phenomenon. Seemingly every episode of the cost of living has a long fluff piece on AI. Any legitimate research on the subject reveals the vast majority of people vehemently oppose this technology, myself included. It is a destructive technology inherently built on plagiarism and is hastening the destruction of our planet, subjects that from my experience, CBC is normally unapologetic in reporting on truthfully and harshly. AI is destroying our ability to access information through flooding the internet with insane hallucinations and “articles” on subjects that are either totally misunderstood by the agent or actually nonexistant. Just today I hear excited discussion of how a person has an AI agent sort and clear their mailbox- something anyone in the know would call a profoundly stupid idea, as AI had a track record of failing miserably at understanding the importance of data, see the viral story of Gemini completely wiping a database it was asked to sort. AI is being shoved down our throats by every irritating silicon valley company and talking head, the last thing we need is our national news agency platforming it, especially when most Canadians see this technology as actively hostile towards us, taking our jobs, rotting our brains, invading our hometowns with noisy, hot, wasteful datacentres, and ruining our access to what may well be humanity's greatest achievement, the internet. Furthermore, I cannot fathom what AI fluff pieces have to do with the cost of living. I beg you to stop looking at this technology with such a concerningly uncritical eye and platforming pundits weekly yet seemingly never any critics. Thank you for reading.
