Sana Lightbourne starts off as a very meek character. She's the first MC I've ever written like this and it was actually refreshing to write her character development and growth into this powerful being. It was cathartic for me to write her and I learned a lot about myself through her too!

No, she's everything. Kal purred.

Their energy hummed and pulsed inside Rhyel as if they were entranced by her captivating aura.

“My Lady,” Rhyel crossed the room with his heart pounding and aching to be near her. “You won the tournament for our House.”

He smiled, taking her hands. “You are our champion," he said, placing a soft kiss against her fingers. “And you look stunning this evening.”

“You honor me, my Lord,” a shy smile curled over her plump red-lacquered lips. “Thank you.”

“You're welcome,” he said, kissing her cheek before bowing his head. “Would you allow me the honor of escorting you to the great hall?”

“Of course,” she slid her hand to his cheek. “There's no one else I'd give that honor to.”

Every time she closed her eyes he was there.

Staring at her with that sad look on his face and her heart broke every time he walked away from her.

She wiped the tear rolling down her cheek.

Come on, Leni. Get it together.

She took a deep breath and straightened her jacket. She rolled her shoulders and pointed a finger at her reflection. "That man isn't real and his sorrow isn't yours to bear."

Her heart clenched and fear slithered down her spine as a faded image of the phantom in her dreams materialised before her.

"No!" She screamed, throwing a thick piece of cut fabric over the mirror before stumbling back against her desk.

She'd never seen him like that before. Not without closing her eyes.

“When are you going to tell her?” Zena said as she sashayed into the forge and sat down on the stool beside him.

Rhyel rolled his eyes as he clamped the naked blade onto the iron pole leaning against the table. “I'm not ready to tell Sana I have feelings for her. I've already told her I'm fond of her. She just started opening up to me and I don't want to scare her away.”

“That's not what I'm talking about, but I'm glad you've gotten that far,” Zena said as she tied her thick locs in a low ponytail. “What I mean is, when are you going to tell her you're the dragon in her dreams?”

Rhyel's heart clenched as stood and slid the blade into the blazing forge. “She told you about Kal?”

“She didn't say his name, but it wasn't hard to guess it was you.” Zena shook her head. “Why are you sneaking into her head with your dragon mind magic? What are you thinking?”

They're going to do what all socialite Ladies do,” Zena said, rolling her eyes. “They'll use every weakness they know about Sana and antagonize her until she breaks or reveals the monster they think she is.”

“Gods, why can't they just leave her be?” Rhyel groaned. “Is Kai going to support their ridiculous efforts too?”

“No. They said they're going to keep it between themselves,” Loic said, looking at Zena with wary eyes. “But Zena seems to think Lord Zehev might be the one to help them indirectly.”

“And why is that?” Rhyel turned to Zena and his heart clenched, filling with dread at the anguish clouding her golden brown eyes. “What do you know?”

“Not a whole lot, but enough to be concerned.”

He nodded, curling his hand around hers and she nearly wept at the warmth of his touch and his gentle heartbeat beneath her fingers. “It's really me.” He brought her hand to his lips and left a tender kiss against her palm. “I can't stay in control for long, but I'm here.”

Tears pricked the corners of her eyes as she slid her hands to his cheeks. “I'm sorry I left you.”

“You had to and I'm glad you did,” he said, pressing his forehead against hers and wrapping his arms around her waist. “You wouldn't have become this beautiful Erius if you hadn't.” He smiled as tears welled in his eyes. “And you still came back to me.”

"Yes, Lord Rhyel," the rest of the soldiers shouted before they shifted and went on a hunt through the forest for Sana's things.

"Zena, conjure a—"

"I'm on it," she said, raising her arms to the sky as her brown eyes glowed in a silver hue. Tree branches bent and snapped, falling to the ground and forming a gilded black carriage. Four soldiers ran toward it, shifting into black stallions poised to steer the carriage to the gates.

Rhyel nodded. "Let's go," he said, stepping inside the carriage and holding Sana over his lap as Zena slipped inside across from him.

Tucking Sana's cloak around her, he grit his teeth at the ripped fabric. "Why would her carriage leave her out here alone?"

“Agreed,” Zekiel said, standing. “I need to have a word with Lord Rhyel before we take the new recruits to the Keep.”

Cori smirked, crossing her arms over her chest. “Tell him that his mate will never change the fact that the Fae have already chosen Sana as our Lady and we are not so easily moved.”

Zekiel patted a hand on Cori’s shoulder. “I will, but you know he must follow the traditions and will of Accalia as the Alpha of this pack and this nation.”

“I know,” she grumbled, looking up at her father-in-law with her green eyes glaring at him. “But he’s also a dragon with a specific duty bestowed upon him by Arevas. He can’t forsake that either.”

Zekiel sighed, nodding. “I’m sure he’s well aware of that too, Cori.”

He gripped her thighs like a vice while she writhed her hips against his face. Her desire and pleasure mixed with his own and when she screamed his name as if he was hers and his was the only name she knew, sent him over the edge.

Rubbing a hand over his heart as he neared his beautiful fiance. He couldn’t wait for the day she was ready to become his Luna because ever since he and Kaladin merged, he’s had an ache and yearning to make her his in the way of a wolf and a dragon.

Mm, it’s an odd feeling, brother.
Rhys murmured.

Because I long to sink my teeth into her beautiful neck and mark her like the Alphas before us.

A blush crept up Rhyel’s cheeks as his wolf’s salacious desire slid down his spine to the lustful member between his thighs. Letting out a slow breath to calm himself, he shrugged off his cloak to cool the rising heat pumping through his veins and his fingers tingled as he used the elements to form a simple metal staff in his hand.

“Are you having trouble sleeping, my Lady?” he said, nearing her as she twirled around and swiped her staff in a perfect arch over her head. He was quick to raise his staff to defend himself against her strike. “Or are you angry with me?”

Sanjay laughed. "Thanks. I think it went well. Not many people paying attention, though."

"Ella generously lets me play when none of the cool people are in town."
Dana half smiled and nodded at this. Sanjay smiled at her. She took a big sip of her drink and laid her hand on top of his.
"It's a little bit crowded here. Maybe we should go to my place?"
Sanjay gently slid his hand out from under Dana's. "I don't think that's a good idea." He said putting his hand in his lap.
Dana took another sip of her drink. She felt like an idiot. A desperate drunk idiot.
“I've been seeing someone for awhile." He explained.
"Right, of course..." She tried to hide at least some of her embarrassment.
"It's pretty serious. We just moved in together."
"That's great."
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean for you to think ..."
She waved her hand for him to stop as she took another big sip of her drink.
