In the Mario Teaches Typing games, Mario never criticizes the player for underperforming and tries to be understanding and supportive. According to Charles Martinet, that was his initiative, as he felt being negative would go against the core principles of Mario's character.

In the Mario Teaches Typing games, even if the player does badly or underperforms compared to previous attempts, Mario will try to be understanding instead of critical:
Uh-oh, that wasn't quite as fast as the last time.
Hmm, are your fingers getting tired? Mine would be by now... if I had any. (laughs)
Charles Martinet, speaking at TooManyGames Convention 2021:
I got this marvelous opportunity to do Mario Teaches Typing. And when I got the script and I'm in the studio - I'm reading the script for the first time, there were things like "You failed!"
"That wasn't very good." "That was much worse... that was bad."
And I was reading that and I said, "Do you mind if I just, like, play with these words a little bit and just change them around?" because, you know, I never say "no" and I never say anything negative as Mario... and the producer graciously said "Sure, go for it!"
And so it became "Oh, that was good, but I know you can do even better!" "Oh, nice one but let's try again!" so it was always uplifting and always trying to be positive. And I think that that is the essence of the character to me - it's that love and that joy.

Some jingles and fanfares in Mario games are based on snippets of the main theme, allowing the player to time actions to play the jingle as a perfect extension of the music.

bro, that makes so much sense! Because you can literally kill all the enemies on the screen during this section with her (and this game doesnt have respawning enemies) BUT if you let Peach go offscreen, she still gets kidnapped instantly even if all the enemies are dead.

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga contains a "Spanish Peach Protection" exploit. Normally, Peach gets kidnapped in a cutscene when Mario is distracted by Toadsworth. Setting the language to Spanish helps mash through Toadsworth's text so fast that Peach never actually gets kidnapped.

A memorable moment in Super Paper Mario is the "many Dimentios" room in Chapter 8-3. Oddly, the Dimentios do not despawn when they are defeated. Instead, they fall into the void below the stage, where they remain frozen in pain forever.

In Super Mario Maker 2, failing the matching game in the World Maker will cause Mario's mismatched creation to emerge from the door, making him slowly back away in fear or disgust. Below are all the possible abominations Mario can create.

In the World Maker mode of Super Mario Maker 2, the Match & Win! minigame is directly based on the Spade Panel game from Super Mario Bros. 3.
If Mario fails to match all three reels to create a picture of a single power-up, he will wait in front of the house...
...whereupon the mismatched object he created will emerge from the door. Mario will back off, seemingly in fear or disgust.
Here are all the possible abominations Mario can create, extracted from the game's files: [collection of 24 mismatched objects]

In Mario Party 3, the message debug mode features Peach walking in a white void while messages are displayed, except all portraits are replaced by Boo. This creates the impression of a bizarre scenario where Boo is showing off his wide repertoire of character impressions to Peach.

When a Spiny Shell is about to hit a racer in Mario Kart World, it aims for the center of their model before exploding. For small racers, e.g. Goomba, this results in a single frame where it fully envelops them, giving off the appearance of the shell itself driving the vehicle.

A 2023 German psychiatric study found that playing Super Mario Odyssey significantly improved depressive symptoms in clinically depressed individuals compared to regular psychotherapeutic treatment, reducing depression by 43%.

Effects of a video game intervention on symptoms, training motivation, and visuo-spatial memory in depression
By Moritz Bergmann, Ines Wollbrandt, Lisa Gittel, Eva Halbe, Sarah Mackert, Alexandra Philipsen, Silke Lux Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, University of Bonn, Bonn, Germany, 2023
doi.org/10.3389/fpsyt.2023.1173652
Methods: a total of 46 clinically depressed individuals were treatment including psychotherapy and/or randomly assigned to one of three groups: an experimental "3D video gaming" group (n = 14) which played Super Mario Odyssey, an active control group (n = 16) which trained with a computer program "CogPack," and a treatment-as-usual (TAU) group (n = 16) which received a standard clinical pharmacotherapy.
Results: regarding depressive symptoms, a significant decrease in the proportion of participants who showed clinical levels of depressive symptoms as measured by the Beck Depression Inventory was only found in the 3D video gaming group (which played Super Mario Odyssey).
Conclusion: besides a standalone cognitive training, the current findings suggest that cognitive trainings using a video game have potential to increase subjective well-being, show higher levels of training motivation, and lead to improvements in visuo-spatial memory functions in MDD.
The proportion of participants that showed depressive symptoms (BDI-II ≥ 13) at pre- (T1) and post-assessment (T2). For Super Mario Odyssey, 100 at T1 and 57 at T2.
Note: information heavily abridged. For the full paper, see link above.

In Super Mario 64, parts of Lethal Lava Land are actually made out of leather, which simply appears to be stone due to the low resolution of the textures.
