Why don't I read Marvel and DC anymore? Simple. I've lost my willingness to accept stories that treat their own history as disposable.

The problem with modern day Spider-Man is that he can't go anywhere because the powers that be at Marvel won't let him. They're maintaining the status quo that *they* want, yet they keep stringing the readers alone with the hope that things *might* get better when it won't.

Venk-Man @venkman86.bsky.social · 15/09/2026

Amazing Spider-Man was the one comic title where, if I had the time and the money, I would love to keep collecting and own a complete unbroken run of if I could. I've suffered through bad runs before (Slott, Byrne/Mackie) but Wells and modern 2020s Spider-Man has made me completely apathetic.

Venk-Man @venkman86.bsky.social · 15/09/2026

...At worst, it completely undid all the goodwill that had been generated by the Nick Spencer run, and completely wore out everyone's patience. For me personally, the Zeb Wells run is what finally made me okay with not wanting to be a completist anymore when it comes to my favorite character...

Venk-Man @venkman86.bsky.social · 15/09/2026

Admittedly, most of the hate that Spider-Man fandom has for the Zeb Wells run does stem from the whole Paul Rabin thing. (which is it's own separate discussion on how one character became a lightning rod that took on a life of it's own) but yeah, at best, this run is mid...

Nevertheless, I just find it unintentionally hilarious that during an alien invasion, where essentially the entire Symbiote population (of the time) is on Earth, and everyone's trying to survive, Ben still takes the time to make a new hoodie... Because, priorities.

000

Venk-Man @venkman86.bsky.social · 14/09/2026

Correct, Ben's original hoodie was store bought from a gift store... However, during "Planet of the Symbiotes" he did have to make a new one on the fly (Spectacular Spider-Man Super Special #1) when it turned out the one he was wearing was actually the Venom Symbiote in disguise.

A perfect example of cel shading being completely unnecessary is the animated series VHS box Wolverine. Not only does the X-Men '97 version look better, but because of the... unfortunately placement of the shading on his trunks and left leg, it almost looks like he had an accident and wet himself.
