Spinning this afternoon: Armor For Sleep’s "There Is No Memory"… …which came out almost a year ago?! Feels like yesterday.

Overdue maintenance thought/reminder to self: I really need to change the "CD Singles" page of the Music Database to just be "Singles" and set up a bunch of redirects.

Actually watched the first "movie" (screened alongside DBZ movie 5!) last night. It's an alternate retelling of Leona's trip to Dermline and meeting Dai, with Statue Robot Hadlar(?!) mixed in. My main two takeaways were: the background paintings were AWESOME + anger over how good its remaster was.

Finally done with Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai. Watched the 2020 anime. Absolute A- of a C+ series. Quintessential Toei production in all that that means. Outstanding voice cast and performances; Toshiyuki Toyonaga as Popp immediately ranks as legendary status. Now to dip backward to 1991...

This is the most Mike-core follow-up ever, but what I'm finding myself much more interested in are the V-Jump-exclusive "Cel Comics" illustrated by Satoru Iriyoshi. The first run in particular is also written by Takao Koyama, and he absolutely nails Toriyama's humor. Check out my wiki pages! 😂

VegettoEX @vegettoex.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

I think the original 1993 manga is... fine. It's notable and interesting for being the last side series that Toriyama did alongside the Slump-to-DB serialization run, but it's kinda just... fine. We see returning hits (and future echoes) of all his demon vs. angels beats in super condensed form.

Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake (True Ending) So glad I spent the extra few hours on this. Some things I saw coming a mile away, but when it got to the ACTUAL end and I realized what was happening, it started getting a little dusty in the room. What a fucking send-off. The effort CLEARLY went into II.

Literally not making up a person: Someone who thinks Kikuchi only worked pre-DBZ, says Krillin but prefers to say Tenshinhan, says Budokai, rejects the dub's "Top" for "Toppo" but will only say "Hercule", didn't like Nozawa until Goku Black simulcast... We're all walking contradictions over here!

VegettoEX @vegettoex.bsky.social · 29/09/2026

RE: the terminology convo Meanwhile over in Dragon Ball land, we have die-hard dub-only fans retching at usage of "Kuririn" while casually saying "zenkai" (a term never used the way they use it) and not thinking twice about our site's spellings of "Beerus" and "Omni-King" (which the dub took)

If anyone installed this and was having the game hang on a black screen during the opening cutscene, the patch file I generated was messed up somehow, and I've uploaded a correct version I've verified is working

Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake - store.steampowered.com/app/2893570/... Finally tackled DQ2! Considering how I felt about III & I remakes, surprised I *LOVED* this one. Curious what old-heads think of THIS remake. 23 hours to credits. Considering doing post-game. Some Caravan Heart holdover trauma.

As I close in on the end of Dragon Quest II, & particularly having played a portable spinoff right before this (as well as other remakes the last couple years), Alefgard is becoming a lot like Kamurocho in my mind. Perhaps it is Kamurocho that is like Alefgard. No, I will not elaborate any further.

Plugging away at my own stuff and specifically an overhaul of the Saikyo Jump wiki page, and it's been interesting to see there are actually other people out there doing some decent, broad documentation work for this magazine! Unfortunately a lot of them still seem to mistake cover vs. release date.

I haven’t been keeping up with it at all, so I have no idea how long they’ve been doing it… but it’s funny to see Super Divers just say fuck it, fine, yeah, here’s like Fu and Xeno characters back in the mix, sure, whatever.

Current issue of V-Jump has some historical DQ Monsters stuff and it’s so fun to just go pull it off the shelf. I even have some of the WJ stuff they reference! Also remains totally wild to see Julian’s “Beerus” name spelling just completely adopted like no big deal, right here on a magazine cover.

I can precisely pinpoint this last weekend as the 30th anniversary of my Dragon Ball fandom. It meant a lot to have someone like Jake here in person to facilitate and really go deep on the history, projects, pitfalls, regrets, and then also hopes and dreams for the future of this silly thing I do. 👇

If you're unsure about full price for the new DQM game in December (and since you can't carry actual save data over, didn't play the demo, so I don't blame you)... Well, the last one is $8 on Steam/GMG (or under $7 with XP). www.greenmangaming.com/games/dragon... Also $8 on Switch but runs worse.

Fell behind because I couldn't directly order from Amazon Japan for a while, but I think I'm all caught up on back-issues now... which means doing the extremely unsexy work that no-one will ever see in this form, but is 1000% critical for me, of filling out my master Saikyo Jump spreadsheet.

It's September 14th, which means you can truly celebrate the 30th anniversary of FUNimation's Dragon Ball Z English dub debuting in syndication on American television! Or you could have celebrated it on September 13th. Or September 12th. Or maybe September 7th. 🔗 www.kanzenshuu.com/features/the...
