Compassion shouldn’t be conditional. It shouldn’t matter how ”intelligent” an animal is (humans judging intelligence in human terms is inherently flawed anyway), or how “cute”, or any other measure. ALL sentient beings deserve compassion and moral consideration. Period.

Many stores display axolotls in tanks with gravel or pebbles. Because axolotls have poor eyesight and feed via vacuum suction, they frequently ingest substrate. Gravel causes internal impaction, which is a leading cause of death for this species. /2

This is absolutely nonsense. The Postmaster General said during a Senate hearing today that if a proposed federal mail ballot rule takes effect, the Postal Service would refuse to deliver mail ballots in states that do not turn over sensitive voter data to the federal government.
