If I had not been accepted here, I would still be "straight". I would still be lonely, and I would still have that lurching in my stomach when I see an attractive man and then wonder "what is wrong with me?" I would have spent the rest of my life that way, and it would have been a very short life.

But I'm better here. If I had not been accepted here, I never would have processed my bisexuality. I go to pride, I flirt with men, I dress how I feel comfortable, and I plan to do so much more once I can finally break down the arbitrary walls that were constructed around me.

And now I am agnostic, and every single day I struggle with my religious trauma that I wish I could cure with a pill or a surgery. I am anxious about sex. I am anxious about my body. I am anxious about drinking and coffee and swearing and even just going to fucking Costco on a Sunday.

At the risk of being genuine… I became a furry while I was still a True Believing Mormon. If I had not felt accepted as a Mormon furry, I would not have discovered my queerness. I would have been stuck pretending to be a straight man who had these weird feelings I couldn't explain.

I will be honest, and I know some people who were involved in this fiasco follow me so please listen: You are making the environment hostile for ALL furries who have experienced religious trauma, and are trying to navigate it. That includes *all* faiths but in this case, Mormons in particular.

My final thought for the night: In 2019 I spent a week at BYU co-leading discussions on how to better support queer students. It was exhausting & bewildering & now a blur, but something one student said hit like a ton of bricks, when asked why they chose to come to a hostile environment for school:
