Hard To Be A God will definitely be a treat for you. I wish I could read that novel again for the first time.

Thus is amazing, thank you. Going to check out Exclusion Zone Botanist and others! May I recommend the novel Nova Swing, which is a cybernoir response to Roadside Picnic? M. John Harrison is outstanding.

a lot of talk about people getting more insane but nobody willing to link it to the day in middle school when we were led into a cave to glimpse our future self and decide whether or not we believed in determinism. sometimes I think I’m still back there. what “choice” did I make?

Track this poster down and make them explain why Tenet is better than The Shining! That would be hilarious.

I really hope its a nothing burger and the entire UK just shrugs and refuses to adapt or change in any way. I just don't trust the British not to do the cruellest, stupidest things, because... *behold the entire history of Britain*

Strange and surreal ideas with undercurrents of the gothic & bleakness... or frank and unsaccharine visions of the best of us.

Yes, any time period can be interesting. I'm a sucker for the first 30 years of the 20th Century.

15. If you haven't already, please read Wells' The Island of Doctor Moreau. Proto-Weird fiction in a sweltering setting, an exploration of naked tyranny and broken alien consciousness.

12. Sure. Ninteen Eighty-Four and the Handmaid's Tale were particular favourites. But also enjoyed Tom's Midnight Garden, Carrie's War, Macbeth, The Canterbury Tales, Othello, The Owl Service.

11. An impossible number. Eichmann in Jerusalem and William Burroughs Letters 45-59 were the most devastating and intriguing, respectively.

10. Not really, even books I don't ultimately enjoy have good parts - Gideon the Ninth for example, was silly but had a nice Gothic atmosphere and interesting ideas.

3. Easy answer is Horror, but subgenre... Weird Fiction I think, over Cosmic horror which is a fine runner up.

Slavery could easily be reworked with some thought about the setting you want to play in and what ideas you want to convey. Knowing WotC though, it could be 'here's a species that just loves being slaves' hastily re-written when everyone shouts at them.
