I feel like a lot of people miss this. Try adding a little bit of a glow or a light projection around the player. You know how in arpgs there is light omitting from the player? This will highlight the player and makes it stand out.

I find it much easier to make faces in 3D than to draw them, idk if that's just me? So I created 2 simple reference models in Blender with basic rigs. For every shot, I would: 1. Pose the 3D reference 2. Trace over it 3. Add facial expressions 4. Color and detail it
