found a luna moth caterpillar yesterday. Unbelievably beefy, like what timon and pumbaa were eating

like this happens so much and if it doesn’t get me killed it is at least going to get me or someone else in the lab into an unsafe situation! I’ve sent nicer and more brief messages so many times! I taped a clearly worded sign right next to the door!

Lmao I beat the shit out of it today with guanidine and urea and then threw em on a gel and THE GELS SEEM TO HAVE BEEN LEFT OUTSIDE TO FREEZE

barely-stained translucent sheet of gel with protein samples run on it with lanes from left to right and bands separated from top to bottom. The blue stain bath is at the bottom of the image, gathered at the opposite end of the tilted tray from the gel. A reference ladder with many bands is just left of center. The lane immediately to the left has a big old blob of a band around mid range. Various lanes to the right of the reference ladder have bands of the same height and various intensities at low range.

I’ve been doing Gibson cloning (putting a bunch of DNAs together, just so) and it took a ton of organizing on a whiteboard and on the computer. I got positive results with the technique, but one of my DNA pieces was wrong thanks to the imperfect nature of PCR. Trying again today and next week 😁

Also, I streaked a pesky contaminant from our cell culture room for isolation. It’s a little overgrown today but I think I did a good job 🥳
