With nearly 5.7 million people in British Columbia, even $1 from every resident would raise almost $5.7 million to support children across the province! That's the power of community, and it's exactly what Daniel and Henrik Sedin are rallying behind with their Grouse Grind fundraiser.

Early gaps in academic achievement can have lasting effects on a kid's future. Success in school is more than good grades or recognition, it helps shape lifelong opportunities. A quality education opens the door to better career prospects, higher earning potential, and an improved quality of life.

Chronic hunger can have lifelong consequences for a child. Without proper nutrition, children may experience lasting physical, cognitive, emotional challenges that can affect their health, learning, and future opportunities. Let's make sure children have the nutritious food they need to thrive!

Did you know that chronic stress can affect how children learn? When children are worried about basic needs at home, it can become much harder to focus on schoolwork. This doesn't mean children lack potential. It means they're carrying burdens that many of their peers never have to think about.

Teachers, principals and school staff are often the first to notice when a student is struggling. That's one of the reasons our Adopt-a-School program is so effective. Funding is directed toward needs identified by schools themselves, allowing support to reach children where it is needed most.

Every child deserves to feel like they belong. Children who feel connected at school are healthier and more likely to thrive. By helping remove barriers beyond the classroom, we can ensure every child feels valued, included, and supported. Because belonging isn't a luxury, it's essential.

For families facing hardship, challenges like transportation, housing, and basic needs can make school attendance difficult. When basic needs are met, children have a better chance to show up and succeed. That's why support programs matter💛

For many children, summer is a time to relax. But for some, it brings a different reality. Millions of children rely on free meals provided at school. When summer begins, that reliable source of nutrition disappears. This highlights a challenge: while school is out, hunger doesn't take a vacation.

🍎 Most of the funding requested by B.C. schools is directed toward food, which remains the top priority. Some families struggle to provide consistent meals, and during weekends or holidays, children may go without enough food, relying primarily on what they receive at school.

In Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, lower-level needs must be satisfied before higher-level ones can be addressed. Kids coming to school hungry, without their basic needs met, often struggle to focus on learning. Our fund exists to help children in need with support of our generous donors💚

Children living in poverty are more likely to miss school than others. Check and Connect Program is designed to encourage students to come to school early so they can be fed and tutored before classes start. The program asked $100,000 from our fund to provide breakfast for students in 30+ schools.

Hunger doesn’t just cause discomfort. It directly affects how children learn and function at school. When kids are hungry, their blood sugar drops, making it harder to concentrate, remember information, and stay engaged in class. 1/3
