They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious. “Peace, peace,” they say, when there is no peace. ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭6‬:‭14‬

I love the God who is behind and beyond anything we could ever say and do about Her.

i need everyone to read The Book of Longings by Sue Monk Kidd. it moved me and brought the world of first-century palestine to life for me in a way that seminary never did. the story is such a beautiful imagination and incredibly well-researched.

I heard a sermon yesterday about how 1) all the lovely things we do are responses to God’s action in the world and 2) that we ought to wait and look for that activity rather than trying to fix things ourselves. For the most part, it didn’t sit right with me, and I’m trying to figure out why.

Gonna be thinking about this lede for a minute.
(RNS) — Last month, the Rev. David Black stood in front of a Chicago-area U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility and spread his arms wide. Adorned in all black and wearing a clerical collar, the pastor looked up at a group of masked, heavily armed ICE agents on the roof and began to pray.

“I invited them to repentance,” Black, a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), said in an interview. “I basically offered an altar call. I invited them to come and receive that salvation, and be part of the kingdom that is coming.”

But when Black began to lower his arms a few seconds later, the agents responded to his spiritual plea by firing pepper balls, or chemical agents that cause eye irritation and respiratory distress, video footage shows. One struck Black in the head, exploding into a puff of white pepper smoke and forcing him to his knees. Fellow demonstrators rushed to his aid, and as the pastor rubbed his face in pain, the agents continued to fire.

“We could hear them laughing,” Black said.

where are play, laughter, and silliness in our theologies? today my family and i had to run off the pickleball court to our cars because of sudden intense rain, and we were cackling the whole time. this can be a moment of gratitude to our creator. delight tell us something about who Creator is.

the more i learn about indigenous cosmologies and slowly try to integrate them into my being, the stranger it feels that christianity doesn’t focus on the cycle of seasons. disconnection from the rest of the natural world is unsettling. colonial. may our liturgies become earthy 🍁
