Extreme heat kills. So maybe cutting off people’s electricity when temperatures are reaching life-threatening levels isn’t exactly a brilliant public safety strategy.
A blue graphic featuring an article headline: "Utilities Cut Power to Over 173,000 Homes During America's Hottest July on Record." The subheadline reads, “Extreme heat coinciding with increased energy prices created a dangerous situation across 10 states in July.”

Your electric bill keeps going up, and you’re expected to just accept it without asking questions. Americans aren’t buying it. 64% of people with rising home energy costs say utility companies wanting to make more money is a major reason why.
A blue graphic with a white textbox. The headline in the textbox reads, "Many Americans hold utility companies responsible for their rising home energy bills." The article is authored by Brian Kennedy and Emma Kikuchi, with Pew Research Center's logo at the bottom of the textbox. The Utility Action Alliance logo is at the bottom of the graphic.

Utilities are doing more than inflating your bill. They're actively polluting your air. A new report shows that over 40% of major U.S. power companies have backtracked on their climate goals since the start of the second Trump administration.

🚨NC regulators blocked Duke Energy's gas plant meant to cover surging AI data center demand because Duke couldn't prove customers wouldn't end up on the hook for the bill. Utilities think they can keep using the AI boom to pickpocket you. Nice try.
