We're hosting a panel tomorrow (Monday the 28th) in Liverpool about our new Workers' Inquiry on AI - come down to the Dog and Collar from 6:30 - 8:30pm.

BREAKING: Wikipedia workers in Britain are setting a global first by becoming the first group of workers at the online encyclopaedia to seek union recognition.

British-based employees at the Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) have requested recognition for their union from their employer. They are organising with UTAW and have a significant majority union membership at WMF.

Today's step towards unionisation is a global first for Wikimedia workers. It comes after a period of significant change at WMF, escalating workers’ concerns over transparency, trust, and the organisation’s future direction.

"Our union is proud to stand with these principled workers, who are initiating this process in the hope of creating a durable workplace grounded in transparency, accountability and participation across the WMF workforce.

Breaking: Apple required to proceed with recognition ballot after months of attempting to block and union-busting activities. CAC Decision: www.gov.uk/government/p...

After months of stalling from Apple, the CAC have imposed access arrangements to allow UTAW-CWU officials to meet with staff at the Cambridge Apple Retail Store ahead of their upcoming ballot for union recognition.

Inititally Apple had refused reasonable access to the building for union reps, while continuing to use regular staff meetings and one-on-ones with staff to try and discourage them from supporting their union.

Apple are now required to give UTAW-CWU officials access to the store for two staff meetings, two days of drop-in surgeries, use of a noticeboard, space for leaflets, use of internal email to share ballot information, and the ability to post materials to staff ahead of the ballot.

The ballot will now proceed during a 20-day period starting February.

TikTok's biggest European market is the UK, something they were gleefully boasting to the press about early this summer but then as soon as a union recognition ballot is scheduled, suddenly it isn't that important and they want to offshore jobs somewhere with cheaper labour and weak unions.

On a day so filled with insightful illustrations of history, today we highlight and celebrate Sojourner Truth. Happy International Women's day from your fave tech workers union.

International Women's Day 2025. Soujourner Truth. Addressing areas supporting the advancement of women and girls. Sojourner Truth escaped slavery in 1826 and went on to fight for women and Black civil rights for the rest of her long life. She spoke defiantly in front of hostile crowds including white women feminists who feared that her Blackness and ex-slave status would alienate the supporters the were trying to win over. She fought to convince them that neither of those things nullified her womanhood.
