This is like arguing that, if you are a retailer, there is no competitive advantage in using the internet because your competition uses it too. On the contrary, using tools more effectively than the competition is the definitive competitive advantage.

Sure it’s not thrown in as a dead cat? So everyone goes “omg you used the bad word” and the rest of the content goes unchallenged, like the old gag about the serial killer who planned to murder 400 Frenchmen and a dentist.

Don’t put too much faith in this. You know how incompetent BA are being now? Imagine that, but they’re actively trying not to give you any money. Trying to win a 261 compensation claim against them is like trying to get a dog to swallow a worming tablet.

And for some reason it always plays as “must be a reason why I’m baking examples” which means it happens during the GBBO as well.

Any time anyone mentions a castle, for any reason, my brain locks onto a little known and not very good house/early garage tune from 30 years ago, “King Of My Castle” by the Wamdue Project. I wish it didn’t.

It always really annoyed me that the fast 146 was a Ti while the 145 was the (in my eyes hugely superior) Cloverleaf.

I’ve been building something similar with Claude models. The problem is currently that the reviewers are a bit too enthusiastic and spend hours, and a fortune, writing huge treatises on their opinions on the code. So nothing actually gets achieved. I assume OpenAi have solved this!

The only people I’ve ever seen and thought “you know what, this could work” have been: 1) The lads from All The Gear 2) Kevin and Angus from Pole Barn Garage and Dalton from Junkyard Digs as a trio. Both sets have something special. An ability to tell a story whilst taking the piss and having fun.

Old New Top Gear worked because it was the vision of a few people. This won’t work, just like New New Top Gear didn’t. There were some excellent presenters - Sabine, Rory, Monkey - but it always felt wrong, because they weren’t doing their vision, they were doing someone else’s

Had the same conversation with lawyers for an automotive firm a few weeks ago at SMMT. They said a few years ago 99% of complaints to car company were “green ink” sort. Now pretty much every complaint is laid out correctly with full legal argument. Overwhelming them.

On the other hand, a pro with the same power tools could build pretty much anything. The ones getting left behind are the ones saying “I don’t need no stupid power tools, I’ve got this hacksaw and I’m sticking to it because that’s what I’ve always used”

I think the power tools analogy is good. Both from danger and opportunity. Power tools let amateurs do things that are pretty good with very little training. Put up shelves, cut up flooring, detail a car. But it doesn’t make amateurs into craftspeople.

Car names are nowhere near as weird as van names. Here in the UK we get a Rifter (which sounds like euphemistic slang for someone performing obscenities in public) a Jumpy and a Jumper, and who can forget the Transit Nugget

Can we make a case for Cadiz as an underrated siege? Tied down forces in Spain which could have otherwise forced a quicker campaign in Russia, maybe even an early win in 1811. Essentially the straw that broke the camels back for imperial France

Nice thread thank you. One thing I don’t get though is your point about solar being not responsive enough. Is it a case that not enough people are on intelligent tariffs? Couldn’t Grid spike the buy price of solar if needed, so all MCS devices say “mm free money” and redirect to grid?

@rebel44cz.bsky.social did a good article on this recently and the combo of Covert Cabal and Jompy maintain accurate counts. Nuts to think that they could still be in such a strong position after losing the equivalent of most of NATOs operational tanks.

What Will Russia's Military Look Like After the Ukraine War?
The last four years have seen Russia suffer equipment and manpower losses in Ukraine that far exceed those of any other major military power in a conventional.
