One of my favourites is the Sutong Bridge over the Yangtze north of Shanghai. Before it opened you used to take a ferry over the river. The bridge is magnificent but I miss the ferries too!

My worst mistake. The Avari Towers hotel in Lahore was doing ‘Italian week’ back in 1990, and I had the Spag Boll. It was a brave effort but to paraphrase Douglas Adams they managed to produce something almost, but not entirely, unlike the real thing.
