Tradition says women wore them during work at the countryside so that the light reflected could help them be spotted far in the distance. The appearance also tells infomation about her status: wether the mirror is a complete circle or just half of it, it will tell people if she's married or not.

Toymaker: Threads of Joy 🧵 LIVE on Kickstarter! @uprisingstudios.bsky.social · 08/09/2026

👒 If you pay attention, you'll see some of the women wear a charra hat with a mirror! I've been looking through a lot of sources and couldn't find a specific one of Salamanca, but in Montehermoso (a city in Cáceres), they have a similar hat with mirrors.

💃 Charro dance is a popular rythm that can be danced in four different ways: the Fandango; the Charrada, the Pasacalles and the True Charro Dance, which uses the oldest and most traditional rythm of Salamanca.

👔 The costumes that you see in the video are replicas of the dresses they wore in the past! Some keep the original design, while others have been updated with more colors, trinkets and floral details.

Toymaker: Threads of Joy 🧵 LIVE on Kickstarter! @uprisingstudios.bsky.social · 08/09/2026

🧸 The term "charro" originates from the euskera 'txar' (weak, deficient, lame) and people used it as mockery for salmantinian people due to their traditions, costumes and accent. However, the people from Salamanca adopted the term as a proud sign of their uniqueness and embraced it.

✨ La Virgen de la Vega festival starts on September 8th to celebrate the patroness of Salamanca, which is said she helped the people of Salamanca during the War of Spanish Succession in 1706 and defended de assault of the enemy troops.
