ooc. Just to update anyone that still cares, I unfortunately had a bad accident on Wednesday and broke my ankle. I required surgery to repair it on Friday. I owe so much here, about 21 replies, I will try to get to some soon in the next few days!

“West Office first. After that we'll head to the S.T.A.R.S office and then check any survivor holdouts, and communications stations.” She glanced towards Carlos before motioning for him to follow her towards the west wing.

A sigh escaped her. “Which means he could be literally anywhere in this building.” She looked over at Carlos, then back to the map.

“If he followed procedure, that's where he would've started looking for survivors. If not...” Claire glanced toward the upper floors marked on the map. “He probably heard someone call for help and went chasing after it.”

υηуιєℓ∂ιηg ωιℓℓ [Hiatus] @unyieldingwill.bsky.social · 02/06/2026

“There it is...” she murmured. Her finger traced part of the map. “The West Office. Leon said he was supposed to report there on his first day.” Her expression softened briefly before she focused again.

When Carlos called out, her attention immediately shifted toward him. Claire crossed the room quickly, stopping beside him at the fire escape plan. Her eyes scanned over the faded layout, searching for anything familiar.

The vast lobby echoed with their footsteps as they moved deeper inside. Every creak of the old building made Claire glance instinctively toward a doorway or staircase. The RPD looked empty, but after Raccoon City she'd learned empty didn't always mean safe.

“Pretty sure I've survived this long without a babysitter,” she replied, holstering her pistol for the moment. “But if it makes you feel better, you can pretend you're protecting me.”

She didn't press. Everyone had ghosts. Instead, she rolled her eyes at the compliment, though the corner of her mouth twitched upward slightly.

Claire caught the brief change in his expression before the smile returned. It was subtle, but after everything she'd seen over the years, she had gotten pretty good at recognizing when someone was carrying something they didn't talk about.

“You don’t think we could make time to check the S.T.A.R.S office for any clues my brother might have left behind while we're here, do you?”

υηуιєℓ∂ιηg ωιℓℓ [Hiatus] @unyieldingwill.bsky.social · 28/05/2026

Her voice softened slightly after that, eyes lingering across the hall. “He really loved working here too.” She paused a moment before blue eyes glanced at him,

υηуιєℓ∂ιηg ωιℓℓ [Hiatus] @unyieldingwill.bsky.social · 28/05/2026

At Carlos’ question, Claire lowered her pistol slightly before glancing up toward the massive statue in the center of the room. “Actually…” A small, tired smile crossed her face. “My brother, Chris, mentioned this place used to be an art museum before they turned it into the RPD.”

110

υηуιєℓ∂ιηg ωιℓℓ [Hiatus] @unyieldingwill.bsky.social · 28/05/2026

The sudden quiet felt eerie. Her gaze immediately wandered across the main hall, taking in the towering ceilings, marble floors, and ornate architecture surrounding them. Even abandoned, blood soaked and half destroyed, the place barely resembled a police station.

110

υηуιєℓ∂ιηg ωιℓℓ [Hiatus] @unyieldingwill.bsky.social · 28/05/2026

Claire paused beside the doorway as Carlos checked inside, muscles tense and ready the entire time. The second he called the room clear, she slipped in quickly before the door shut behind them with a heavy thud that muffled the distant groans outside.

110

υηуιєℓ∂ιηg ωιℓℓ [Hiatus] @unyieldingwill.bsky.social · 28/05/2026

“Too stubborn for his own good. Kinda reckless. Has this habit of trying to save everybody.” Sounded a lot like Carlos in the short time she had known him. Which was exactly why she was worried.

110

υηуιєℓ∂ιηg ωιℓℓ [Hiatus] @unyieldingwill.bsky.social · 28/05/2026

At Carlos’ comment about Leon, she let out a quiet breath through her nose. “Trust me,” she muttered, “you’d understand him in about five minutes.” There was the faintest trace of amusement in her voice despite the exhaustion weighing on her shoulders.

110

υηуιєℓ∂ιηg ωιℓℓ [Hiatus] @unyieldingwill.bsky.social · 28/05/2026

Claire stayed close behind him as they approached the RPD, her pistol raised while her eyes swept across every broken window and shadowed corner surrounding the station. Seeing the building standing there through the smoke and chaos almost didn’t feel real after everything the city had become.

110

υηуιєℓ∂ιηg ωιℓℓ [Hiatus] @unyieldingwill.bsky.social · 27/05/2026

Then her eyes narrowed slightly toward the road ahead. “If he’s hurt,” she added quietly while tightening her grip on the pistol, “...we'll deal with that when we find him if we have to.” Her boots echoed off the damp streets as she continued along the path he had instructed them to take.

υηуιєℓ∂ιηg ωιℓℓ [Hiatus] @unyieldingwill.bsky.social · 27/05/2026

At Carlos’ comment, Claire looked over at him briefly before shaking her head with a tired laugh. Her expression softened for a moment despite the chaos surrounding them. “Leon could survive the apocalypse and still somehow get stuck doing reports.” She could see that.

100

υηуιєℓ∂ιηg ωιℓℓ [Hiatus] @unyieldingwill.bsky.social · 27/05/2026

One clean shot dropped another corpse wandering into their path. The closer they got to the RPD, the tighter the knot in her chest became. Leon was there. Hopefully alive.

100

υηуιєℓ∂ιηg ωιℓℓ [Hiatus] @unyieldingwill.bsky.social · 27/05/2026

As they pushed onward again, Claire fell into step beside him, scanning every storefront and alleyway they passed. A few lone infected staggered nearby, but after everything they’d just fought through, they barely slowed her down anymore.

100

υηуιєℓ∂ιηg ωιℓℓ [Hiatus] @unyieldingwill.bsky.social · 27/05/2026

Claire stepped aside while he shoved the crate into place, sparing one quick glance back toward the blocked gap. It wouldn’t hold forever. Nothing in this city ever did.

100

υηуιєℓ∂ιηg ωιℓℓ [Hiatus] @unyieldingwill.bsky.social · 27/05/2026

“Yeah, well,” Claire breathed, lowering the pistol slightly as he finally emerged, “somebody around here has to keep you alive.” Despite the situation, there was the faintest hint of amusement in her voice. It faded quickly once the distant moans rolled through the street again.

100

υηуιєℓ∂ιηg ωιℓℓ [Hiatus] @unyieldingwill.bsky.social · 27/05/2026

The gunshot echoed deafeningly through the alley. The infected’s head snapped back against the brick wall before the corpse crumpled in a heap at Carlos’ feet. Half in the alley, half out.

100

υηуιєℓ∂ιηg ωιℓℓ [Hiatus] @unyieldingwill.bsky.social · 27/05/2026

Claire kept her pistol trained on the gap while Carlos squeezed through, every nerve in her body still wired tight from the horde pressing closer behind them. The second she saw movement forcing its way into the narrow space after him, her expression hardened instantly.

υηуιєℓ∂ιηg ωιℓℓ [Hiatus] @unyieldingwill.bsky.social · 27/05/2026

His comments earned him another small huff of air from her as she rolled her eyes. Her ears a vibrant red. Though the ghost of a smile tugged at her lips. "Don't go getting use to it."

000

υηуιєℓ∂ιηg ωιℓℓ [Hiatus] @unyieldingwill.bsky.social · 27/05/2026

( she pauses when he lowers his arm. brows knitting together in quiet confusion. her mask slips a little and she leans forward to place a kiss next to his mouth.) I know. I just worry.

000

υηуιєℓ∂ιηg ωιℓℓ [Hiatus] @unyieldingwill.bsky.social · 27/05/2026

She noticed the flicker of his gaze towards her lips. How could she not? That did little to help the heat in her face. But the moment that confident grin crossed his lips, the heat reached the top of her ears. She let out a huff of air as she crossed her arms over her chest. Turning her head away.

Still, her expression softened just slightly after. Not trusting, never fully trusting Ada, but understanding her a little better than she probably wanted to. “Guess I’ll take the compliment, then,” Claire said with a faint smirk. “Even if it came wrapped in a warning label.”

A quiet laugh escaped Claire despite herself, her arms folding loosely across her chest. “Wow. I should probably frame this moment somewhere,” she teased lightly. “Ada Wong admitting she’s impressed? That’s gotta be a once-in-a-lifetime event.”
