Putting together a system that is so...mid oughts.

Basics are your innate or natural abilities- Brawn, Agility, Stamina, Insight, Cunning, and Self-control. (See? BASICS) Roll Brawn for lifting heavy things, agility for rolling out of the way of an enemy attack, Insight to pick up on subtle things in the background, and so on. In some cases, you’ll just be relying on your basics: In a test of pure muscle, you’d double your brawn and add it to the d10 roll. Some rare circumstances might call for you rolling just an attribute without doubling, like if you’re trying something tricky with no applicable training at all, and some might call for two different attributes to be added together.

Taking a quick break from some longer RPG writing projects to finally do as I've threatened many times:

Anecdotally, the term Steampunk came about because a fantasy story set in Victorian London started getting serialized in a magazine that primarily published the work of a lot of the first wave of Cyberpunk authors. Supposedly, someone wrote into the letters column of that magazine, complaining the story felt out of place, and asked “What is this supposed to be, some sort of Steampunk?”
Steampunks is an inspired by this supposed moment, and thus is an RPG about being the sort of people who write to a fiction magazine in the eighties and complain about the content not matching their expectations.

So on top of the usual issues- we're having electrical problems in the house: replaced circuit breakers, but power is still out in the outlets on one half of the house. We have an electrician coming Wednesday, but I have no idea how much that will end up costing. Could use any and all help.

Sir Balin, or perhaps a pathwalker of his. An Arthurian knight who dealth the original dolorous stroke with the lance of Longinus and killed a lady of the lake.
The actual folk Christian figure of the Roman Centurion Longinus, who in some traditions was cursed to walk the land until Christ’s return.
Someone who was caught up in the swirl of the myths around two pathwalkers at the same time and called on to fulfill the needed role.
A serial killer with a spear who was in the right place at the wrong time.
Given his first victim on the show was a vampire and “The impaler” nickname: the historical Vlad Tepes, annoyed that people associate him with bloodsuckers.

Upside of making a fake TV show to be the fake licensed media property for a game inspired a bunch of early 00's licensed TTRPGs: I get to make up my own chapter quotes from the imaginary source material. Downside: I have to make up my chapter quotes from the imaginary source material.

Making up fake episode summaries of an imaginary TV show to provide support for writing an RPG inspired by early 2000s licensed genre show tie-ins. This is fine. I will remember to include a disclaimer this time so I don't get confuse people into trying to watch the fake show, unlike last time.

Example 1: Take Season 1, Episode 1: Jake gets hired by Natalia’s mother to find her, fearing that using Salvatore’s men to look for her would set off the other gangs. Jake checks out Natalia’s room for clues, bumps heads with goons from the Caravaggios who don’t like an outsider poking around, but finds clues about the night she disappeared. He investigates those, and learns she was seen having a loud argument with someone from the Dragos family at a club and that when they left, still fighting, someone followed them out! He gets a description of both the Dragos member and the man who followed them, and then starts looking nearby. There’s no sign of Natalia or the one who followed her, but he finds the Dragos family member pinned to the wall of a nearby alley, held in place by a spear. The episode ends with Jake calling the cops as the camera focuses on the impaled mobster. While this didn’t resolve the story that started out the episode, it definitely changed the stakes of what’s going on.
