Hi #PortfolioDay Im Bruce, an illustrator, creative director, printmaker & sculptor. Big fan of risography, old goofy SFF covers, forced perspective & experimentation. Nice to meet you :) WEB: www.badmanifesto.co.za IG: www.instagram.com/bad_manifesto PRINTS: www.inprnt.com/profile/brucemackay

Two colour illustration of Barad Dûr, with Sauron's eye at the top. surrounded with the ring inscription in elvish. the sky is red with sparks and ash floating in the air, the tower is above a fiery chasm. The front doors are glowing red with silhouettes of chains and armouries. A cloud of ash conceals the horizon. This will be a banner and riso print first. Digital prints coming later this year.

Illustration of a paperback copy of Frank Herbert's Dune. It's a 3 colour riso setup using teal, red and yellow overlapping. The title is in white with D and E mirrored and the lowercase u and n flipped. Center image is a big worm with a big blue hallucinating eye at the centre of its mouth with some rocks with Fremen Holding flags and knives in the foreground. it is particularly difficult to draw Shai Hulud without it's mouth looking like a giant butt-hole.

Digital illustration of a The Lord OF The Rings cover. A Nazgûl sits astride its horse between 2 red trees that make a circle. Int he background is Weathertop, the Misty Mountains and Orodruin. Overlapping risk colours - red, teal and yellow. Some mushrooms in the foreground.

Illustration of a cover for THE HOBBIT. View from inside the halls of the woodland elves. A ramp is dropping some barrels. The trees make a circle. In the trees are some elves and spiders. Inside the circle from the bottom is a river flowing through forest. Barrels in the river. The river joins a lake with a floating town, above it the Lonely Mountain, with its reflection/shadow over the town.

I’m reading The History of Middle-earth in 2025, one book per month. It’s June and I just started The Return of the Shadow and I’m SO excited! As much as I love the First Age, the last five books have been a lot and I’ve been dreaming of returning to the Third Age. Hurray!

The first meeting and final parting of Aragorn and Boromir 💔 #Tolkien #art

Young Aragorn/Thorongil sitting down and holding a baby Boromir. They are at the Court of the Fountain, with the dead White Tree of Gondor behind them in a patch of green grass. In the background there is a view of a large field and mountains.

Aragorn is leaning over Boromir, holding the other man's head gently and about to kiss his forehead. Boromir's chest is pierced with a black arrow and he is resting against a tree and rocks, and has a peaceful expression. There are many trees in the background and it looks a bit foggy.

Beautiful post by Emma: "On Earth Day I vow to listen convivially. To surround myself even more in greenness and take care of all the creatures who depend on it (including myself)... Despite evil forces in the world, we need to save the Shire. We need to save Earth." 🌱🌳🧙‍♂️

Greetings from April 🌱 I'm out on my patio listening to the glorious sound of the neighbour's high pressure washer while watching ants climb up the balcony posts right next to me. How lush! Tulips are out, dog is sunbathing. I'm here trying to write a letter to someone. I hope you are well.

It all depends where your thread goes, as much as I’ve liked threads I’ve also never blocked more people in my life. If a post reaches one clown it reaches them all and just spew out hateful comments.

For Black History Month, did you know that one of our foundational Tolkien scholars is a Black woman? Melanie Rawls wrote "The Feminine Principle in Tolkien" (1984), among THE seminal works on women and Tolkien. She's written on JRRT and Ursula Le Guin among others and is a fantasist herself.

The writer and Tolkien scholar Melanie Rawls, an African American woman in a blue button-up shirt, glasses with thick black rims, and a dapper fedora.

The article "The Feminine Principle in Tolkien" by Melanie Rawls, published in Mythlore 38 (Spring 1984). Above the title and author, a pen-and-ink drawing depicts three powerful women from Tolkien's mythology.
