This week our class went to Burnaby Village Museum to learn from its curator, Jane Lemke. We talked about exhibit design, accessibility, and the role of museums in decolonization. Our students also got to think about how the type of space affects how you might exhibit a collection.

This week we heard from Barbara Hilden, Director of SFU’s Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology, who discussed the role of museums, exhibit design and creating effective labels. We are starting to think about how we will communicate our findings and the “Big Idea” that will guide our final exhibition

This week Dr. Tremain showed our students several 3D-printed replicas of the belongings we will be studying this semester, encouraging our class to think about how we might make our final museum exhibit more accessible through tactile experiences. @sfuarchaeology.bsky.social

This week our students finally got to see the belongings that they will spend their semester analyzing in ARCH 332. Here Dr. Higgins shows a group of students the belt buckle that one group will get to research this semester.
