Fire and rehire is banned from January. East End Homes is threatening it now. Labour can do what it did on foreign donations: announce that the protection applies from today. Whatever the motive, workers shouldn't lose out in the gap. www.insidehousing.co.uk/home/london-...

London landlord defends pension changes as union members take strike action
East End Homes employees have been on strike to defend pension changes and against what they believe are moves to avoid new laws under the Employment Rights Act.

I think we could explore having one single multiplier that applies to all benefits, tax brackets and allowances, public sector pay, MPs salaries and expenses. So that we are all in it together rather than pitting pensioners against the disabled, etc. It should all be automatic.

Coniston House, 10am. Grinding and banging right beside homes that still have families living in them. EEH still hasn't rehoused everyone. How is this acceptable?

I’m enjoying this season and not just because Evan Peters in his rubber outfit.
A marketing shot from AHS13. Evan Peters as Tate Langdon sits in an armchair next to a fireplace in a cosy wood panelled room. He’s wearing a full body rubber suit with black leather boots and black rubber gloves. He’s not wearing the characters black rubber facemask, so we can see him looking pensively at the camera.

I’m not at all disputing that. It would be delicious if this whole incident was actually just people making dogging content for their fans. And now I’ve got THAT song in my head.

Between a rock and a hard place then? They can’t be allowed to fail, so the Government has to step in if a HA goes under, but also the Government isn’t able to exercise the control needed to ensure they’re properly run and don’t go under. (see my HA, where the Regulator took too long to intervene).
100
Martin D @unixmaisonette.com · 28/09/2026
Is it just a technicality that it isn’t? My understanding is that if a provider goes under, the Regulator has to step in anyway, so those (like water companies’) are hidden public debt that could well land on the taxpayer.

I was thinking that maybe it was me and my tastes have changed, but I picked up a pack of Sainsbury’s own brand, which has recognisable *food* ingredients, is Fair Trade certified and tastes pretty much how I remember. So I wish a big fuck you to Kraft/Mondelēz for screwing up our chocolate!
140
Martin D @unixmaisonette.com · 28/09/2026
Looking at the side of the pack the ingredients (including palm and shea fat) looked more like what you’d expect in jar of hand cream than food and I definitely don’t trust their ‘Cocoa Life’ scheme.

Martin D @unixmaisonette.com · 28/09/2026
This a bit of a particular rant on the important subject of chocolate: Last week I bought a pack of Cadbury’s Fruit and Nut. I took one bite and threw the rest in the bin. It tasted so disappointing.

The Government should have seen this coming and made a statement along the lines of the one for the foreign funding legislation to stop unscrupulous organisations taking advantage while they legislate.

How can residents trust the promises of an organisation that so wilfully reneges on pension commitments it has made? Residents and workers shouldn't pay the price of successive leadership's mismanagement. The @rshengland.bsky.social must step up and take responsibility for what is happening.

Very disappointed to see that, despite being named and shamed in parliament in a discussion on companies taking advantage of 'fire and rehire' ahead of the practice being outlawed in January, Eastend Homes are still threatening their workers with it.

On @lner.co.uk you can book bike spaces (and seats) via their website.

I also managed to book a bike space on a connecting train (though had to resurrect a twitter account as @crosscountryuk.bsky.social aren't really here). It'd be nice if they could provide that service without being dependant on unethical social media platforms.

So today I've been mostly travelling to Cheltenham. It was supposed to be a couple of hours, but due to the Didcot gas leak (www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...), it's been quite a trek. It could be worse, but everyone has been very British about it.

I understand nearly £13 billion of tax was deemed uncollectable last year. Up from £4 billion in 2022/23. The majority of this is from insolvent companies. That money hasn’t just disappeared; it’s in someone’s pockets. If it were overpaid benefits, the press would be calling for people to swing.

Twink to bunk without transitioning through any of the intervening categories?

If complacency (if not complicity) resulting in such tragic loss of life is not career ending, careerists will only take encouragement. This is completely the wrong message for the industry right now.

A still from Star Trek: Lower Decks. Dr. T’Ana, a bipedal cat-like species, grips Lieutenant Junior Grade Boimler’s uniform as she stares menacingly into his eyes.

Interesting idea – we've previously done a little work in a similar space in the form of www.mysociety.org/2020/08/25/f.... As you point out, the ideal would be to make them subject to FOI as they are in Scotland – we already list these www.whatdotheyknow.com/body/list/rs... …

Given the parallels (and the gaps) — could @mysociety.org build a WhatDoTheyKnow-style tool to help tenants file and track STAIRS requests? My full piece: www.insidehousing.co.uk/comment/tena...

Tenants and residents deserve freedom of information
Social landlords should be subject to the same transparency standards as local authorities, says Coniston House Tenants and Residents Association’s Martin Donkin

The new Social Tenant Access to Information Requirements (STAIRS 🪜 — yes, they really forced that acronym) come into force in just over a month, giving housing association tenants new rights to information. But as I argue for @insidehousing.bsky.social, it's a much weaker scheme than FOIA. 🧵 1/2
