UCEA confirmed the 2% pay uplift will now be imposed on staff this month. UCEA themselves say "it clearly does not reflect the true value employers place on staff" which we would agree with but it is cold comfort to our member struggling after nearly two decades of below inflation pay offers!

15,000 jobs axed, 1000s of courses cut, campuses closing, whole academic disciplines disappearing.   Calling this a crisis isn't "bashing things that we're good at", it's raising the alarm.   UUK needs to get real, stop making cuts & start working with us to protect provision.

Oh George…
"Universities are not public-sector bodies. We are independent, competitive organisations. University leaders are doing a very good job. Name a university that has gone bankrupt," he said.
He added that his peers are underpaid compared with their international counterparts. "Those at the top end of the sector are not paid enough. Nine Australian vice-chancellors earn more than A$im a year. Thirty university presidents in the US do. At Yale it is $1.2m while Oxford pays £300,000. These are mobile jobs. If we cut people's pay they will simply go abroad," he said.

Some positive news in this morning's trade union stats. Membership up to 6.57 million, its highest since 2020. Public sector trade union membership at its highest level since 2010 (4.0 million). Stats are for 2025, so before the new trade union rights in the Employment Rights Act came into effect.

You've got to ask yourself why this entire cohort of senior managers is so gullible they're throwing this amount of money away. Some respect for staff expertise would be nice. Some understanding of how leadership works as well. Instead, they're all paying big figures for generic powerpoints

We rarely shout about our successes but we can confirm that over 100 colleagues working in certain roles in the Library and Tech Services will be re-graded as of 1 July 💪🏻 This is a significant achievement for our pay campaign but we continue to support other colleagues with grades and workload 🤝
UNISON WIN!

102 staff at Manchester Metropolitan University re-graded.

Following a long campaign, more than a hundred staff at the university will now be paid at a grade that better represents their hard work.

UNISON statement on the antisemitic attack on the Jewish charity ambulances in Golders Green.
UNISON is appalled at the antisemitic attack on the Jewish charity ambulances.

This violence once again brings fear to the Jewish community in the UK, and we stand in solidarity with them at this distressing time.

Jewish people should not have to live in fear in the UK. We all have a role to play in stamping out antisemitism.

UNISON, now and always, will challenge antisemitism and campaign against hate and extremism.
