UNICEF is deeply concerned by reports in recent months of grave violations against children, including abduction and killing, by non-state armed groups in northern Mozambique.

The safety, wellbeing and rights of children must be protected in all circumstances. UNICEF calls for the immediate release of all abducted children and for their safe return and access to appropriate care, protection and support.

UNICEF continues to work with the Government of Mozambique and partners to support affected children and families and strengthen child protection services.

Every child has the right to live in safety, free from violence and fear.
