Free story idea for anyone who likes torturing their characters: Imagine a character going through boot camp. They go to sleep on their last day, ready to begin their new job in the military. When they wake up, it's the first day of boot camp. None of their physical training goes back with them.

Anybody remember this show? Feels weirdly relevant today specifically ...

And for the record, yes I have also been attracted to non-binary people. Pansexual feels disingenuous for me, personally, to identify as because I have preferences relating to identity that no Pansexual I have ever met had. Hopefully that's helpful to someone who was thinking about being pedantic!

If someone wants a more thorough explanation, here's how I identify it: Pansexual is for people who have no preference based on gender identity. Bisexual is for people who have preferences based on gender identity. I prefer women, cys or otherwise, but I have felt attracted to some men before.

I feel the need to put this out into the ether in the hopes of educating someone who doesn't get this: Yes, 'bi' as a latin root means 'two.' No, that does not mean bisexual people are only attracted to two genders. It's a word, and words are easily molded to new definitions and understandings.

Ever since my gf and I started playing Stardew Valley together, I've been seeing friends playing the game in a different light. Any number of them could be sharing a mundane, special kind of joy with their partner. That just ... Makes me feel real warm inside ;w;

If it looks like an Amazon delivery and drives like an Amazon delivery, then it's an Amazon delivery, right? Not according to Amazon. Big companies like Amazon have built a vast network of subcontractors who deliver their packages while shielding them from accountability.

Latest post-midnight take: Tootsie-Rolls started coming in different flavors to make people more invested in the original chocolate variety, as a means of implying scarcity or that the company would eventually phase it out. I can't prove this but it explains why every other flavor sucks ass.

2 am hot take: I loved playing through the Genocide route in Undertale bc nothing shows the depth of a person's kindness and justice like an impossibly powerful foe. My cruelty showed me just how amazing those characters are. Never give me power.

I think certain neurodivergencies and disorders would be the equivalent of drugs to Mind Flayers. ADHD = Meth, Cocaine, etc. Depression = Alcohol, some Marijuana plants Autism = Mushrooms (this one will make you think WAY too much about sloths) OCD/Bipolar/Schizo etc. = BAD TRIP

I think I understand Actual Play fans a bit more now. Been reading through a new TTRPG book for about a week and I wanna run it real bad but for various reasons I have to wait, and now I'm willing to settle for just hearing someone else's game. Can't wait 'till I'm back at the table tho

Media analysts are the kinds of people that feel disappointed when protag-kun speeds past describing fictional game mechanics because he thinks they're boring the audience. The folks that say "aww, I wanted to know how you got past the frame-perfect energy blast counter move!"

There are a number of movies I'd call "mixed bags" that are meant in the greatest amount of enjoyment value that I can muster. Some of the best I've seen and some of the least interesting I've seen. Iron Lung is one of those movies.

Like when I learn something new, my understanding of that is not 'this is information that existed, and I have now become aware of it.' It's 'this information now exists in the world.' Which implies that my awareness or lack thereof determines a thing's existence.

Okay did some more thinking about my last post and it occurs to me that I kinda inherently assume other people either don't or didn't know the same things I don't or didn't know. Like my inherent understanding of knowledge is kinda fucked 'cause it's very self-centered.

Basically, I'm struggling with understanding how to tell people about my health journey without being a dick about it. Are there phrases I should avoid? Is explaining the purpose of my therapy or helpful techniques for interacting with me the problem? Genuine question for the world here, Idk shit

000 0

UnholyBasil @unholybasil.bsky.social · 02/01/2026

I kinda don't know how to fix or change that? Multiple people at this point have told me what I say about mental stuff comes off as patronizing but why would I assume other people know what's going on in my head? How I think? Hell, how anyone *but them* thinks? Nobody's a mind-reader.

100 0

UnholyBasil @unholybasil.bsky.social · 02/01/2026

So, apparently I don't know how to be clear with people about my mental health without coming across as patronizing. I guess some part of me telling them about what my therapy is for or how I manage stress comes across as 'you clearly don't know psychology, so let me explain it to you.'

Still gonna make this Sanda video happen despite the Holidays being over - at this point, it's more of a spite project than anything else. I genuinely love the show, but damn if this vid hasn't been one of the more trying ones of my career. Also, Invincible fans can expect a treat coming February~

So I'm very happy to be a Christmas baby. I think Christmas is a lovely holiday, and I'm grateful I was born on a day that's meant to spread love and cheer to others. Clarifying so that when I ask the Christians out there to kindly not preach to a crowded travel bus on the 26th, they might listen.

Hence Sentai & Sensibility as my example here. A story about being a Power Ranger saving the city and also a noble embroiled in early-America social dramatics would be hard to improv using PBTA, FATE, or many other narrative-focused systems. It needs mechanics as unique as its setting.

030 0

UnholyBasil @unholybasil.bsky.social · 04/12/2025

I think a mistake a lot of TTRPGs make is trying to be unique in their mechanics purely for the sake of standing out. If you're gonna make a whole-ass mechanical system from scratch, it should be because no existing base suits your needs.

110 0

UnholyBasil @unholybasil.bsky.social · 04/12/2025

Oh crap you probably meant something without a base uhh Yeah the second answer is my real one then. Base systems exist to help people streamline the beginning process of game design and focus on keeping their game ... Well, focused. Set in its niche and so-forth.

110 0

UnholyBasil @unholybasil.bsky.social · 04/12/2025

I'm a basic bitch, so if it's PBTA I'm probably gonna go for it. Otherwise, it has to be filling a void I didn't know existed before. Sentai & Sensibility comes to mind.

UnholyBasil @unholybasil.bsky.social · 04/12/2025

Where the endless array of incredible creations somehow fails to enable genius, remember that FATE does technically do whatever you need. Or you could play an Awakened Lion in Starfinder if you have a really cool GM, I prolly shoulda led with that huh

Watched Castle in the Sky for the first time tonight. Obviously great movie, 10/10. There's some good symbolism in the way the spell to find Laputa was 6-8 words, but the spell to destroy it was only one. It's so much easier to destroy than it is to search and find ... But the latter means way more
