Yep, this tracks with my own spreadsheets. (My debut's advance was $5000.) To reach the poverty line, I'd have to sell, generally, 20X more books than I do. I'm still surprised these days when someone says "I got a book deal!" and the response is "Congratulations!" instead of "Oh no" 😆
