There are days when all the demos run smoothly. Then there are days when the wineglasses refuse to shatter, the LRC circuits give only anomalous readings, and the marbles flop off the loop-the-loop. #IgorsLife

"Hover" #SilentSunday #dogs #photography #ChinookDog
A tawny male Chinook dog dashes toward the camera. This photo was taken in mid-bound. All four of his paws are off the ground, creating a distinct ‘hover’ effect. His dark-rimmed eyes look straight at his goal (the camerawoman’s left ear). His extra-long tongue sticks out to the right. Sunlight shines through the fur of his upright tail, giving it a torch-like glow. Autumn leaves are scattered along the trail at his feet. Their glowing reds, yellows, and browns add a colorful note to the scene. The blurred feet and legs of his kilt-wearing owner can be seen in the background.

If you see young people, creatively, desperately finding ways to make their own third spade, maybe you keep an eye on it to make sure they are okay, maybe you don’t tear the branches down and yell “the kids stick fort is Right Here and they are talking about things that matter to them!!!”

I’m running the Unseelie Saga as it was meant to be, with personal storylines galore and many intriguing NPCs. Last night’s kick-off: a party at the Court of the Midnight Thorn.

#SilentSunday #heron #GreatBlueHeron #birds #wildlife #nature #photography
A great blue heron stands among shady grasses at the shallow end of a large mill-pond. Smooth shadows cast a cool blue color over the heron. Dapples of reflected sunlight spot the shadowed throat and pick out the line of its jaw beneath its bright yellow eye. The heron stands in front of a bank of grasses growing fan-like out of the water. Behind them, bright sunlight fills the sunny summer pondscape. The heron’s reflection in the smooth water is sharp and clear up to the neck. There, a set of thin ripples blurs the heron’s long neck into its head and turns the long beak into a dark blue streak in the water. The mood is tranquil.

Days ago, I noticed two pinpricks on my wrist; mosquito bites or thorns, I thought. Their appearance grew progressively worse until now they look slightly concerning. I would like to state now and for the record that running a superhero campaign is no reason to be bitten by a radioactive spider!

"Is it drier in there?" #SilentSunday #bloomscrolling #bee #bumblebee #jewelweed #nature #photography
A bumblebee investigates the inside of a bright orange jewelweed flower on a wet summer morning. The bee appears to be a bit damp: some of its pale-yellow back fur is stuck together in locks, and the reflections from the bee’s black head look a bit wet. The bee clings to the orange-spotted trumpet flower of the jewelweed with several feet. It is rubbing its head with its front right foot, as if pondering, “Is it drier in there?”. The jewelweed flower is covered in tiny, shining water droplets. Water droplets cover the broad leaf hanging above the flower and glisten off flowers and leaves in the background. Two small jewelweed seed-cases can be seen hanging under the foreground leaf. These miniature bean-pod shaped cases are not yet ready to pop.

#SilentSunday #nature #clouds #photography
A wide arch of high-piling clouds sweeps across the horizon. Sharp white billows and peaks, grey-tipped, faint-shadowed, lift their heads into a bright blue sky. Blue-grey armored, flat-bottomed, they lower over the distant landscape. A set of skyscrapers at the left, diminutive as a doll’s house, accents the scale of the titanous cloudbanks. To the right, still higher lofts of cloud, unseen in this photo, shadow the arc from the Sun.

#SilentSunday #monarch #butterfly #nature #bloomscrolling
A monarch butterfly poses on a stem of royal purple flowers. The sun shines gently through the monarch’s closed wings, creating a striking stained-glass effect in pale orange, rich orange, black, and white, though the monarch’s black veining is noticeably fuzzy in this sharp image. The frilled edges of the monarch’s wings end in a lively black-and-white spotted border which carries slightly up the wings and over to the spotted head and body. The stem on which the monarch poses is covered in long purple flowers, seeming to consist of only two petals (top and bottom) open in point-tipped ‘mouths’ that reveal a creamy inner side. Possibly a salvia cultivar, the flower stem itself is reddish-purple.

#SilentSunday #bloomscrolling #bee #pollinator #wildflower #summersweet #photography #nature
A sleepy bee drowses in a summersweet plant. Dark accents enliven the fuzzy, pale yellow back of the bee, from which its delicate wings sprout. The bee's thin feet cling to the white flowers of the summersweet. This five-petaled white flower blooms in elongated clusters, with the striking orange-tipped stamens of the individual flowers creating a 'fuzzed' look from a distance. This cluster rises from three sharp-toothed leaves whose tips are faintly yellow. In the background, more clusters gleam in the approaching sunlight.

#SilentSunday #sunrise #photograph #nature #park
The sun rises over a rolling, forest-covered hill in this summer photograph. Orange rays shine down across the distant trees as the sun climbs over the horizon. The clear sky is palest blue overhead. Faint shades of pink and orange enliven the pallor along the horizon. In the foreground, grey quartz-marbled rocks, smoothed by erosion, reflect the orange rays. A single scant pine in the middle distance stretches toward the sun, its dark needles sharp against the clear sky.

"Today, my name is Patches." #SilentSunday #dogs #ChinookDog #photography #summer #bridge
A male Chinook dog prances across a bridge. His wide pink tongue protrudes from his half-black muzzle. His ears are half-down and cocked toward the camera, so that they stick out rakishly on either side of his head. There’s a black patch over his right eye where allergies caused him to scratch too much. The fur is just starting to grow back, but the black ring around his eye is quite prominent and gives him the look of a dog named Patches. He is prancing along the neat grey planks of a bridge. Shadows fall sharply across the rusted bridge rails, striping the X-reinforcements in thin sunshine stripes. Thick green trees shake their summer leaves in the background.

#SilentSunday #reflection #summer #nature #photography
A tissue-thin orange and gold leaf floats gracefully on the smooth mirror of a stream. The leaf upturns sharply on the sides, as much like a boat as a leaf can manage. The tip of the leaf stretches upward and curls inward, looking for all the world like a ship’s figurehead. At the back, the leaf stem arches delicately toward the water, delightfully suggestive of a rudder. Every ripple and vein of the leaf is perfectly reflected in the water. The sun’s brightest gleams stretch across the center of the leaf in two curves. Reflected, the four curves suggest a bright butterfly, with the surrounding leaf as a cocoon. The unexpectedness of this image is enhanced by the leaf’s surroundings. In the water’s reflection, the leaf is entirely surrounded by the bright and dark greens of healthy summer leaves. Here and there, the reflections fade, allowing a glimpse of a rock-strewn, summery streambed. Surrounded by summer heat, shaded by summer leaves, the autumn butterfly dreams in its cocoon, waiting for frost’s chill to weaken its protective husk.

"Conference call" #nature #swallows #flight #photography #wildlife
Two swallows captured in mid-flight, one posed above the other. The bottom swallow rises vertically from the middle of the frame, belly angled toward the camera, white throat shining in the sunlight. Its wings are bent downward and toward the left in mid-beat. The shadow of the right wing falls on the feathers of the left. Its dark beak rises sharply, pointing toward the uppermost swallow. The uppermost swallow dives downward, its beak pointed down toward the bottom swallow. The two beaks are nearly perfectly aligned. The wings of the uppermost swallow extend upward in a sharp V-shape. Individual wing feathers are sharp and distinct against the clear blue sky. The tail of the uppermost bird is pointed toward the camera and angled from high on the left to low on the right as the swallow dives. The swallow’s body curves downward in a graceful arc toward the lower swallow. Color variations are harder to see on the uppermost swallow, which appears black and slate-gray due to the sun’s angle, but the paler throat can be distinguished from the dark beak.

I consider it heat wave counter-propaganda #nature #photography #waterfall
Water rushes down the remnants of a tiny millrace in this splashy summer photo. Three separate streams arch and foam in wide-splashing white water over dark, dripping rocks. In the foreground at the left, wet rocks pick up green highlights from the grass and bushes growing above the waterfall, while reflections from the white water and blue clouds accent the center and right sides. The mood is cool and refreshing.

#SilentSunday #bloomscrolling #rose #nature #photography
Raindrops bedeck the half-opened petals of a Rosa Mundi rose in this summer photo. This particular blossom lacks the Rosa Mundi’s signature pink-and-white striping, opting instead for a clear, bright rose-pink that pales ever so slightly at the ruffled edges of the petals. Clear, rounded raindrops accent the soft texture of the petals. The rose is turned in a three-quarters profile, its yellow and black sepals hidden within the curling petals like a face hidden in a lace-trimmed bonnet. The background is a blur of greens and pinks.

#SilentSunday #ocean #coast #seagull #waves
Slate-blue waves churn to white foam over pale green as they reach the rocks in this seacoast photograph. White rivulets stream over the every dark, seaweed-covered rock. The white foam stands out so sharply against some of these dark rocks that you can make out individual drops. Down at the bottom of the frame, a seagull flies low, slipping between the rocks. The blur of movement and position creates an optical illusion that suggests that the gray-white wings of the seagull are formed of the gray-white water itself, with the seagull’s white neck and yellow beak improbably rising from the waves. The peaceful slate-blue ripples of the deeper ocean set a strangely calm tone for a scene of such churning activity.

Sometimes, player choices mean that a battle of five armies makes its way into your vampire campaign. It was a fantastic night with amazing story beats: surprise attacks, cameo appearances, death of the innocent, intense emotional exchanges, locked-off comedy frames
A top-down view of a large game table covered in miniatures and terrain. A large building representing a winery surrounded by outbuildings stands on one side. Vegetable gardens, fields, haystacks, trees, and hills extend across the table. Minis, index cards, and dice representing military units engage in small battles across the table. Silver tokens and pennies mark pit traps and explosive charges. Orange and black fluff on the main building’s roof represents the blazing fire raging in the winery itself. Near the winery, the black caped figure of the traitorous PC vampire general exalts in destruction.

"A sup of crab" #SilentSunday #seagull #TidalPool #nature #photography #ocean
A seagull grasps a crab in its beak as it splashes in a tidal pool. The seagull’s wings are still outstretched from its dive into the tidal pool. The smooth grey of the gull’s wings contrasts nicely with their dark tips and white edges. The brown-bodied, red-legged crab wriggles futilely in the gull’s sharp, yellow beak. The tidal pool into which the gull dived is thickly covered in seaweeds that vary in color from darkest brown to olive-green. Thick, pale-brown ribbons of kelp and brown-green bladder ‘beads’ appear all over the rocks. Wide ripples in the dark, cloud-reflecting waters still mark the gull’s splashdown point. Heavily distorted reflections of gull and crab appear in the water. At the bottom-left edge of the photograph, a little pale green blurring shows that the photo was taken through some foreground foliage. The crab and seagull are slightly blurred in this fast-action shot.
