Within 24 hours after the crash, Chernicky posted a photo of the crash scene on his Instagram page and wrote, “Hey everyone, yesterday was absolutely insane. I’m pretty beat up. I thank GOD I’m still alive. My Tesla is completely burned to the ground and destroyed, but I was able to escape out of the back. God is real.”

"Since stepping down from parliament in 2019 Watson has revealed himself to be a complete scumbag, you just weren't paying attention."
Since stepping down from parliament in 2019, Watson has been an adviser to the gambling and music industries and, since 2024, he has been a part-time adviser to Palantir, including accompanying Mosley at Labour party conferences. He was a defence minister and a minister for digital engagement in Gordon Brown’s government. Palantir has a £240m contract with the Ministry of Defence.

I was struggling to have some strong feelings about Tottenham's transfer window, but now I've settled on sad.
There is no truly egregious transfer on this list. All of them are some variety of “fine, I guess.” Justifiable given their level of production and Tottenham’s squad needs. But there’s something to nitpick about all of them. A couple years too old, £10m too expensive, low cost but highly unlikely to do anything. And the result of doing this 8 times is essentially the equivalent of doing something like Man United buying Antony. There is no single Antony here, but Spurs have recreated one of the Premier League’s worst transfers in the aggregate.

In Al Mughayir, twenty miles north of Jerusalem, settlers have encircled the village and mounted a campaign of intimidation, largely under the protection of the Israeli military.

Families in the village are increasingly cut off from accessing their land, squeezed into ever smaller areas and have olive trees uprooted and livestock stolen.

In the same community, just last week, two teenagers were shot when settlers entered the village under police and military escort. Both died before reaching hospital. Madame Deputy Speaker five teenagers have now been killed from their school this year.

Ehud Olmert, the former Israeli Prime Minister, has described what is happening as - I quote - “a violent and criminal effort to ethnically cleanse territories in the West Bank’.

The former Minister of Health and retired Brigadier General from the IDF, Ephraim Sneh has said – and I quote again - “this is ethnic cleansing to put it simply”.

Ethnic cleansing is defined by the UN as ‘a purposeful policy designed by one ethnic or religious group to remove by violent and terror-inspiring means the civilian population of another ethnic or religious group from certain geographic areas.’

The British government agrees that there is ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in areas of the West Bank - perpetrated by settler terrorists.

They want to do the plagiarism but they don't want the clients to smell the stink of AI on them.
Business Insider spoke with four users who said they had canceled their Claude subscriptions. Some users, who shared confirmation of their cancellations with us, said they disliked the prospect of a persistent marker in their work and were worried about their AI use showing up in client work, such as coding.

Read this after hearing you guys talk about AI. Kenny is doing his best but I don't think we're being cynical enough. ludic.mataroa.blog/blog/ai-mani...
This is to say that we’re facing a coordination problem around executives being honest around the AI gains they’ve witnessed – if they co-operate, they keep their jobs. If they defect, they will possibly be fired by their embarrassed peers (who have now been implicitly called liars, cowards, or incompetents) and then replaced with someone that will toe the line anyway. If they could all admit the truth at once there might be some hope, but there is no way to coordinate that event.

Look, I'm not saying there's a Terry Pratchett quote for every occasion. However ...
There are, it has been said, two types of people in the world. There are those who, when presented with a glass that is exactly half full, say: this glass is half full. And then there are those who say: this glass is half empty.
The world belongs, however, to those who can look at the glass and say: What's up with this glass? Excuse me? Excuse me? This is my glass? I don't think so. My glass was full! And it was a bigger glass

"Well maybe if you read it in context it gets better?" Eh.
That’s how I experienced it. I began playing football aged six, in 1976, after moving from London to Leiden in the Netherlands. Most Dutch boys I met belonged to a football club. (The Dutch football federation, like many other leading countries, banned female football until shortly before that time.) European social democracy supported male football: the local council obsessively watered and mowed my club’s only field.

As one of the world’s richest regions, western Europe has been able to afford to pump cash into sport. In Norway, said Klaveness, profits from the state’s betting monopoly were spent on “Norwegian sports and fields”. Children from the poorest families could usually play for nothing, while others paid as little as $10 a year, she said. The little Leiden region had dozens of football clubs. Some fielded 20 senior teams, seven teams of under-eights and so on. Many people built their identity and social life on being the right-back or linesman of the 14th team. The Netherlands in the 1970s reached two World Cup finals.

Everyone played and understood how to play. Football is geometry — about creating space when you have the ball, and shrinking it when you don’t. That knowledge is all around you in western Europe, unlike in Asia, Africa, the US or Brazil.

Dutch football culture later expanded to include women. In 2017, the average Dutch person lived 1.6km from a football field. Neighbouring Germany’s football federation is the world’s largest sports association, with more than 7.7mn members.

When you write a computer program, you will often want it to access private things, like a database or a service you’re paying for. A human, you could ask for a password. But a program needs an access secret so a human doesn’t have to press a button each time.

There are ways to do this without just putting the password into the program code. They’re sort of convoluted, but any competent programmer should be experienced in them.

Chatbots aren’t competent programmers. So the way coding bots keep doing this is to put the access secret right there in the code!

Not going to QT Patrick because he's talking about more important things but dear lord these generational divides are bullshit. I will at my cloud forever about how stupid they are.
I think there's a microgenerational gap between older Millennials/young Gen-X and younger Millennials/Gen-Z on this - being old enough to understand the Matthew Shepard attack, not knowing any out gay adults, not having many queer kids at school - and worse if you grew up in an exurb/rural vs urban.

Fellow Reform councillor Terry Mole said that while he does not know if he’s a Christian and he doesn’t go to church, he does pray to win the lottery and said that councillors who do not want to listen to the lord’s prayer should just ‘bow their head’.

Cllr Mole said: “We are Christians at the end of the day.”

He went on: “Am I a Christian? I don’t know. I don’t go to church. I don’t pray every morning…But when I do the lottery, I still say, well, please God, let me win, okay?…I’m sure we all do it. Where are we going to get buried when we die? We’re going to be buried in a church, okay?”

Worth noting the headline is doing a number on the actual quotes on this one.
"I have seen a growing number of cases that you are referring to and also raised the issue with the Home Office," Phillips told the committee.

"However, I have seen thousands more of those cases be completely and utterly legitimate."

She said that more needed to be done to prevent false claims but cautioned that it was important that this did not adversely affect genuine victims.

"Nobody would want to see that woman have to jump through many hoops to get away from being raped or being held down until she was pregnant which are cases that I have seen," she said.

"You have to make it so that the evidential bar is a fair one that stops the issue that you are talking about but allows people with very little recourse to the law actually to be kept safe from terrible perpetrators of some of the worst crimes I have seen.
