With all loans out, and four away with England U18s, I've been really impressed with the u21s against Bradford. Gone toe-to-toe, and the lovely Ferreira just scored a beauty for 1-0. Mason Miley is a little menace. Absolutely no fear about leaving one on senior pros. #nufc

Not sure if these running stats from the weekend have already been shared. No surprise that Pardo sprinted the furthest. Pleasing that Miley covered so much ground from RB. Mad that Murphy recorded a higher top speed than anyone else. #nufc

Cole Palmer pulling out of the England squad for load management.. Is that like semen retention?

As well as Dedic started, I think Miley made a strong case for being first choice RB. No surprise, as he was our best RB last season and team played best with him there. Not a judgement on his midfield performance (mistake yesterday was out of character) but about the balance he brings at RB #nufc

Not sure how we made such hard work of that. Big win. Amazing start, great first half, comfortable and in control til around the hour. Felt like after Steur went off the whole team and management decided we would no longer be able to keep the ball. With Schar on, Jaissle almost did a Tuchel

Very pleased to see some versatility from Jaissle to get us back in a 433. Would never have thought Wissa would be replacing Bruno. Or that a newly signed 18 year old would be trusted as a pretty much one-man-midfield.

Only Robinson played today, in a team weakened by players moving up to u21s and even first team squad since the start of the season. Still won an away derby 3-0. Second derby win by three goals this week for a lot of them who'd have played in U17s Cup v Sunderland too.

How are we defining "of a certain age" these days? Because Samba played for Villa in 2018.

Andy @undyhatt.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
Didn't watch, so I don't doubt that they played well but the hype the regular Newcastle reporters are giving Sunderland for a 1-0 home win with a gift of a penalty is so cringe.

Just seen the Sunderland penalty - is there no VAR in the Europa League? Not sure how I'll see a worse penalty decision all season. Like the one v Arsenal, the Sunderland player makes the foul, but this one's about 10x worse.

Elanga injury coinciding with Osula return makes me think we'll see Pardo wide left despite his preference for playing centrally. Tend to think it will be much better for his settling in process. Perhaps then follows more of Willock/Ramsey/Joelinton at 10 as Wissa needed in reserve up top. #nufc

Really struggle to understand what Ramsey has done to be so far from the manager's plans. Solid second half of last season and just saved us against Bournemouth #nufc

Touré has looked lively and robbed off a chance to hook into the empty net after another Trafford clanger

Can't remember a worse half in a long time, but it's not surprising. The formation is basically 424 with two kids in front of a shaky backline. With Wissa playing, I feel like one of the wings should be a centre mid tucking in. #nufc

New right wing thing is describing crimes as generically as possible to pretend like they're not crimes. Someone gets convicted of conspiracy and they start yelling "Wow so it's illegal to make plans with friends now"

As well as the goal, I thought Ramsey was good when he came on. Would rather his footwork was put to use further forward, and he's surely got the pace to offer more than Willock as the 10.

You know you've had a bad game as a ref when you've booked as many coaches as players
010
Andy @undyhatt.bsky.social · 05/09/2026
The bias of this ref is off the charts. Looking straight at the ball hit the Bournemouth player and gives the goalkick
000
Andy @undyhatt.bsky.social · 05/09/2026
Absolute disgrace from the ref. The amount of times Wissa has had his shirt pulled without drawing a yellow and then booked because the defender ran across him to break the counter. Unbelievably poor display from the officials #nufc

Such a sloppy half. Think only Hall comes out with credit (Barnes too for a great hit but otherwise looked a bit isolated). Felt like misplaced passes were mostly a result of being on the wrong wavelength rather than just inaccurate. Miley and Nico not got a grip in midfield. #nufc

After a win against Derby, #nufc give first starts to two summer signings today at home to Stoke. Healy-Matthews from West Ham at RB and Thompson from Arsenal at RW. Excited to see what they can achieve this season. Miley, Mills and Moran also still eligible for FA Youth Cup.

First #nufc U18s fixture of the season against Derby just kicked off. There's a lot of talent in the midfield of Alabi, Koussou, Ghanem, Robinson, Seldon. 4 of the 5 play for England.

Not really seen any evidence of a change with the new coach so far. No real pressing. Looks pretty much like Bristol City, having most the ball but looking like conceding any time the opposition comes forward. #nufc

Hope Elanga injury is nothing serious as he was sharp again. Touré likewise on the other side, pace to burn. Didn't think Bamba was poor, but Steur's desire to get on the ball made a difference. Young ones all did alright, but Johnson looked particularly confident at CB despite minimal U21s football

Just watching the Boro game and wondering if you'd be able to get a chant going based off one line in a 20 year old Maccabees song. "Lankshear's... our goal machine"

Sunderland linked with Catamo from Sporting. Good fit. I listened to the radio commentary of their game against Arsenal and wondered when Cattermole had come out of retirement.

Feels like Bruno (and others) were only annoyed with Isak last summer because every single one of them had some kind of "gentleman's agreement" that they could leave if we didn't make Champions League. If we're ever competing for those spots again, we absolutely can't make those promises. #nufc

Looks like the GK will join up in Spain, so I make it an absolute minimum of 4 players still needed to give the new boss a fair fight. Went through so many windows under Ashley leaving obvious gaps, and even Howe got us 4th despite 3 big weak spots in the first XI. Can't set new guy up to fail.

Andy @undyhatt.bsky.social · 30/07/2026
With Howe resigning, I guess we get Bruno's move will be done within a day or two. Can understand why that would be the tipping point for Howe to kill any confidence that he could turn things around quickly enough. A really sad way to end a brilliant few years. Thanks for everything, Eddie.

Looked like a defeat to me on paper, playing a championship side with so many missing. Decent half though, despite the score. All the ball, plenty of corners and sustained pressure. Steur's corners have been good and breaking lines with ease. Elanga sharp. Schar injury didn't look good #nufc

Bamba Gascoigne

Andy @undyhatt.bsky.social · 24/07/2026
Bamba looks the exactly type I wanted to replace Tonali (if lacking experience). Tonali's engine was incredible, but we might be even better with a more positionally-disciplined 6. And, if you're going to have a player whose main job it is to break up play, they might as well be a 6ft4 giant.

Touré was getting some links with big clubs throughout last season, but it now looks like a third signing that I had literally never heard of until they were basically through the door. I find that quite exciting, and it's reassuring that there are scouts doing a job and being listened to. #nufc

The Premier League's ban on gambling sponsors feels so pointless, with several clubs just shuffling the gambling logo and Everton somehow able to get a fresh gambling company on the front of their shirts for this season.

#nufc Back for preseason today, so thought I'd take stock of who's available for first (behind closed doors) friendly Saturday. Jaouen; Shahar, Schar, Botman, Hall; Ramsey, Joelinton, Willock; Murphy, Osula, Barnes All the above shown in club photos today, but haven't seen Pope. Move close?

Just realised this is probably the bit of Chinese whispers that generated brief reports of Manzambi interesting Man United.

Andy @undyhatt.bsky.social · 13/07/2026
Feels like last summer would have been the rebuild if we'd had a Wilson in place. Villa now rebuilding in the same window as us but with CL to offer. After Manzambi, wouldn't be surprised if Villa now sign Trafford and whoever our first choice fullback cover and right winger are.

Andy @undyhatt.bsky.social · 12/07/2026
Always thought Villa looked the only viable team to hijack Manzambi as the big 6 wouldn't offer a starting place. Looks like a really decent replacement for Rogers, who was the only other top young player Villa have signed under Emery.

One #nufc update that might have been missed today is Sam Alabi signing his first pro contract on his 17th birthday. By no means a given that he'd commit to us, even though he only joined at 14. Sure plenty of the Big 6 academies would have had an interest in picking up the England U17 captain.
