David Ronai has been restoring the original Christmas Experiments to fix breakage from the last 14 years. But AI couldn't fix my old demo… it never worked well on most PCs back in the day. So I fixed it by hand. Never Seen The Sky (2026 edition). acko.net/files/never-... #webgl #threejs

Fun fact: I wrote a set of 2D canvas components in Live for this, matching the Use.GPU implementation of Plot/Point/Line/etc. It's not feature complete but it works a treat. Can swap between WebGPU and Canvas mostly by replacing the imports. gitlab.com/unconed/bezb... gitlab.com/unconed/bezb...

The "size of the curve" is ill-defined though. If you base it on the length of segments (or distance between endpoints) then symmetric tangents again become asymmetric even tho the radius of curvature is the same on both sides.

Yes, the inflection point example at the end hints at this, though the visualization isn't great. S-curve beziers have the inflection point somewhere in the middle, but its exact position shifts around fluidly to match the handles. If you pin the inflection point in place, the curve fights a lot.

One issue with this is scale-invariance. Using the radius of curvature means that the handles scale exactly with the curve... (because they correspond to tangent circles). Bigger curve = bigger handles. A saturation function would need to be dynamic based on the UI zoom level and canvas size.

Not quite true. Live/Use.GPU performs a form of stack slicing so that direct child renders can be inlined without going through the queue unless there is a particular reason for it (like a fence).

Meanwhile if you want to *really* optimize your performance, you should be prepared to rewrite your opaque rendering pipeline from forward+ to deferred 5 months before release, while reinventing variable rate shading for compute and hiding all the ugly artifacts. [idSoftware2025]

Just seems like dream logic to me. The illusion of consistency is maintained only from frame to frame.

It used to be "talk is silver, code is gold" except now it's like a freemium game where silver is the worthless dopamine drip and gold just costs money.

The entire purpose of organizing code is to produce a structure for people. The compiler doesn't care, it would be happy with 100 files in 1 directory. The reason to keep it at an ideal size of ~7 files per module is human short term memory.

And whether different URL implies different back/forward state or not. You know exactly what you want in each case, but this is not super obvious unless you very carefully think about it.

I will eventually write my "here's what you should've been taught about how to structure your react codebase"... but not right now because I don't need more work

I was wondering if anyone other than Twitter could make a half decent infinite scroller web app but based on how much this app spazzes out when you press Back the answer so far is no.

Same on the first. Most of my habits around cleaning are learned, and result from the fact that a clean house is cognitively much less taxing and hence more pleasant.

Glibly, 10x engineers write 10x less code. So it's very demotivating and ego-threatening to show dev who worked for days to get the bugs out of their pile of spaghetti that you can do all the same stuff with a single meat ball.

The secret to doing magic with code is not genius tier effort but just writing as little of it as possible. I find this is impossible to teach. You have to feel it in your bones.

What I wanted most on birdsite was to search the content I've seen in the last [time window]. Would be trivial for any non-web client to do, but is pretty much non-viable in the cloud.

On the other hand, most of this I only want because content on the bird site is sus by default

Point 1 would be trivial in a traditional desktop client, which is why it is virtually unheard of in the cloud.

Desirable microblogging features: - search all posts I've seen today/this week/ever - view the combined feed of people I follow - gantt chart of trends and their longevity, in particular when one topic displaces another I want tools to manage the firehose and fight social media psyops.

A coworker said "no two react codebases I've seen look alike" and this is very true. The framework is really just a way to do lisp-style macro-expansion in a reactive/resumable way, so there is no pre-existing structure and you actively need to create your own.
